All the goats where UTD on shots( 11/16/16) mothers we thought were healthy no sings of distress. Meredith aborted triplets , which is what we suspected might happen because she was so big . Rosa babies were fine at birth I watched them nurse . Then a couple of days ago one (charlie) was half dead in the hay cocoa was running around we checked her before we left . We returned a couple hours later and cocoa is half dead in the hay mother next to her calling her . Checked the mother her milk dried up and we don't know why . We bought grain that is for pregnant goats @ 23.50 a bag ouch. Any one else can think of why her milk would dry up .

My thought it dried up because the babies did not nurse.. and you should keep powdered goat or lamb replacer for the babies just in case you need it .. tsc has it and most grain and farm supply stores.. and that grain for that price might be too high protein for lactating goats.. you might be better off buying regular grain for goats.. and perhaps good hay instead.. ask karen .. she might know.. sorry for this to happen,, no one wants to see the death.. and goats and have a high death rate..

A couple of things come to mind. First mastitis, she may have had milk but developed mastitis which could lead to drying up as the kids may not be able to get the clots out. A big concern though is pnumonia or coccidiosis. If the kids were running and playing then acting off/weak and dead within 24 hours I highly suspect pasteurella pnumonia. Was there fluid comming from the kids mouths? Pasteurella is a real bugger the kids may seem ok but have trouble breathing, if they can't breathe they can't nurse, the doe drys up. Coccidiosis but with the kids playing I doubt thats what happened. There is a vaccine for pasteurella pnumonia, sorry I don't know the name of it but it's a vaccine. Going to bed soon but I will check back tomorrow.
