So guys!!! I've got this mare and I would like to get a foal out of her. Not this coming season, probably be 2018 season at the earliest. She is Appy and I would prefer to stick with breeding her to another Appaloosa if possible but would entertain other ideas. She is sorrel, varnish roan. Has a great pedigree and has been tested Negative for everything a few years ago when I had originally thought to breed her before. So no worries there. She stands about 15h maybe 15.1 tops, I hadnt taken a stick to her since she was 3 truthfully. Height didn't matter so much to me honestly. Personally I think I would like to see a better rear end on her, particularly through the hocks. But otherwise she is a pretty mare, very long fluid mover, super smart, very athletic, easy to train and keep. She comes from excellent stock. She IS maiden so please keep that in mind when choosing a stud, it would probably be best to stay away from frozen semen. I think it would be hard on her for her first time breeding. She is currently located in Florida however 2017 she will be moving to Texas. This is NOT a foal I would like to resell or rehome, it is for keeps. However I still would like to have something that is also well bred and well rounded. Color is less important to me but if we could just "pick an ideal foal" Id want something OTHER than sorrel and not roan. Something to top around 15h like mom. But you know, beggars cant be choosers right! This would be for an additional family horse, truthfully I just don't have the "want" to show anymore. My mare has competed in barrels/poles and has about $5,000 in earnings under her belt as well as several belt buckles and a couple saddles. She is just going to be a trail/family horse anymore. I am open to any suggestions and advice is welcome. If you would like to see her pedigree you can search Totally LA on allbreedpedigree.com should come right up. I have been pretty much out of touch with the breeding and really the horse world for several years. So I welcome everything! Ive attached one of the most recent photos of her. Sorry it is not a good one for showing her conformation. And excuse my kid not in shoes, he randomly wanted to get on her when I was visiting and working with her. Attachments:

OK...you said she is in Florida... Where??? She looks so familiar to me...
I have to check on some details but may know of a App stud in the Plant City area. Have to do some digging and checking to see if he is suitable and bloodline to compliment your mare with... mini-graphics-miscellaneous-038091

All I know is the mare is a nice looking appy mare and i am sure she will be a great mom.. by the looks of her and her attitude towards kids she is one of those mares that can be trusted and is wise and well trained.. and i am eager to hear the results of the choice of stallion..

She will be moving with me next year. She has been to several shows (barrels, poles) maybe that is where you have seen her? or on HorseTopia.com as I used to be a member there as well. Between my mother and I we have had her since she was just under a year old, she has never exchanged hands except when I purchased her from her breeder. Let me know what you come up with! I've had a hard time finding a good Appy stud I liked so far.

I can't help with finding a stud as I know nothing about the Appy world. But you may want to use this calculator to help with the color genetics when you find a potential stud. www.animalgenetics.us/Equine/CCalculator1.asp Your mare looks like a total sweetheart.

I am not much of a help at all. However I do breed (Lipizzans), I mean my family do. My mare had multiple babies. All I can say, raising a foal is a joy but a BIG responsibility and cost. I would also consider maybe adopting a horse. But if you want to raise one by yourself, then baby foal is a good choice Wish your beautiful mare healthy baby and that you get what you want. I would also like to see the stud when you choose one

Hey Lippizan
I am not new to breeding horses I used to breed, raise and show Apps all the time. lol This would not be my first go around in the breeding realm of things. I am out of touch with the "going studs" currently however as I have been out of breeding horses for going on 10 years now unfortunately. But I welcome all suggestions!
I have preferred to breed my mare once and get a foal but I understand what you mean about adopting a different one.

OK... I spoke with my friend who had world champion Appaloosa horses in all disciplines. She was a breeder and exhibitor...
So she looked at your mares papers.. Her opinion is do not breed her to anything here in Florida but bring her home to Texas where better stock and bloodlines are. She said there is, in her opinion, not a horse here that would complement her to balance her deficits and enhance the positives like you want to do.. The stud I had in mind she looked at me and said emphatically "NO" to. "He is not good stud quality and throws poor offspring...a "typical" backyard runt, period."
So, I trust the persons judgement in horses. The walls of pictures of her horses with grand champions, national champions and world champions says a lot about her in my eyes.
My friend did say no matter the stud you choose be very careful because you do have the Impressive line very close, and it is Impressive and a lot of that blood. She said if you want a App, you need to get a pure App as your stud not a half-breed that is going to throw more Quarter, Arab or Thoroughbred characteristics. She said most anything here in our state {Florida} is not a "foundation" but already a cross and that is where dilution of genes and inclusion of problem issues can come from... Please be careful in selecting that stud was her comment along with shaking her head about what is here and "quality"....they don't seem to be in abundance in this area. Sorry.....

Thanks for the advice! I am open to breeding her AI so I am less limited on location. Just not sure that frozen semen would be a good idea since she is maiden. I haven't found ANY App studs so far that I liked. Anywhere. Or if I did they are closed books, no outside mares. It's getting less likely to find an Appy that meets my needs or wants. I am hoping to stick to Appy because she already has enough Qh influence in her. But it's so hard! There are an abundance of Qh studs I find that could compliment her. The struggle!
I haven't seen a single "foundation" Appy stud I like EVER. Not a single one. I just don't like how they are built, just most of them come from some backyard it seems like. This isn't what I want, I still want a well formed, well bred baby. Even though the baby would be for myself. Ugh I'm beginning to remember why I was always so stressed out in the breeding world. 😂😂
Btw she wouldn't be getting bred while staying in florida. This is why we are waiting until 2018 at the earliest season. She will hopefully be residing here in Tx by next fall.

I found this guy.. I might be just a little bit head over heels for his coloring. LOL But he is here in Texas which is a plus but does offer shipped semen. He IS carrying some QH blood, however I am ok with it. I just highly doubt there are any foundation apps that are going to be worthwhile. I cant find them. Illustrator, 2003 Leopard. topstepfarms.com/horses/illustrator2.html Or his son, Hypnotist also appears to be very nice. topstepfarms.com/horses/hypnotist.html

Oh dang it dang it dang it. Totally was not thinking about Dezi's pedgiree compared to these two. These probably wont work, I think they are too closely bred, Impressive and Plaudit lines. Grrr! This is pretty hard to find suitable Appys. Foundation ones are just about out of the question, they are terribly formed/bred most of the time.

Personally, I think Illustrator has hind-end problems. I would not consider him. His photos are of him pig-fat as halter horses are presented and still he has a "hunters" bump that you could near ski on... He's long backed and a weak hind end to me... His "advertising" photos leave me wanting to see better stand-up and more angles... Has the horse done anything other than halter? Granted he did that well, but is he even athletic? I also have to say he won "Nationals" but what was his competition like? He's pretty....but he has {to me} some substantial weaknesses that will not mix well or complement your mare who you say is already hind-end weak..
Hypnotist to me is way nicer but again.... He is halter bred and looks it. But has he done anything under saddle that points to being athletic and sound minded?
I like Secret Admirer much more... Beside looks, he has been in the show ring and made a name himself by what he has done... Halter and under-saddle win and ribbons. For a horse with his looks, ribbon winning background his stud fee is cheap!! $500..... Sorry, I am a pessimist and looking for the how come so cheap? His "get" are also producing ribbon earners...so passing along athleticism. For the riding horse you want I would be more inclined to breed to a horse who has been ridden and done several divisions with notable wins..not the halter horse nor one so closely bred to possibly bring out negatives not enhance the positives..
I thought you were searching for a live breeding and cover not a pipette visit?
You are looking for a riding horse. Even a trail horse needs to be athletic and more correctly built the better the quality of animal under saddle..
There has to be more studs around...
jmo...and could be very wrong!

The problem is there ARE more studs, however MANY are too closely bred to Dezi or they are just crap in the first place. Including Illustrator and Hypnotist unfortunately I ruled them completely off after examining their bloodlines alone. lol Avoiding Impressive and too much Plaudit is harder than it looks in finding any Appy stud. I thought about Secret Admirer while his bloodline much better suited (not so closely bred and is more Appy). Im not sure as to why his fee would be so cheap either. I saw him in glancing, really off a simple google search is how I came across any of these guys. I need to know more about what he is producing and himself really. Just going off his page is all I have on him. I am not opposed to breeding Dezi AI, I mentioned it in the original post AI is fine. Just not sure that I would do FROZEN semen, but cooled/fresh would be doable. And truthfully if I want to find ANY stallion Im going to have to be open to that. The pickings on Appaloosa studs is not nearly as diverse as say, your AQHA/APHA horses is.

The Secret Pardon is a no go. Dezi is also Impressive bred, while yes they are both N/N I want to avoid adding more Impressive to her.
