Some of you may remember that I had lost my beloved german shepherd a couple years back. We decided after a lot of research that we did not want to get another shepherd due to the amount of health problems that we encountered with our previous dog. My husband started looking into the Belgian malinois breed, we really liked the profile of the breed. I ended up seeing an ad on craigslist for a 2 year old male, we took the long drive to see him. I was pretty hesitant, I really wasn't ready to move on. When we arrived he was chained outside, and filthy, covered with mud and ticks. The area he was in was a muddy mess, and he was drinking from a muddy puddle of water. He was intact and was being kept with 5 other intact males, apparently the males weren't very fond of him. And to top it off this person had only had him a month, and was rehoming him because he didn't have the drive she wanted. He took to us right away, and given his situation we just could not leave there without him. So here he is, my big baby. We have established a great bond in the short time that I have had him, and he is very gentle, yet protective.

I was thinking the same thing! When I spoke to her a few months later she almost didn't beleive how great he was doing with us. Awww sorry to hear that, sounds like he was a loyal boy. Yes he is quite the happy camper now, he thinks he is a 80lb lap dog..lol

He looks adorable. I'm so glad you got him out of that situation. My neighbor has 2 I think but he has trained them to attack people so they are always in the fenced yard or on a lease and can't be approached. I have no idea why he thought it would be good to train them that way??

I am a softy for dogs. What a beautiful boy! It sounds like a really bad situation was in store for him. I don't understand how people think sometimes. It is hard to take the plunge after you have lost one that you really loved, I did the same, it took me about 2yrs also. No dog was just right when I began looking, and I realized I was looking for the one I lost. My daughter found my new pup, and he was nothing like what I was searching for. But he is my new love and just perfect. graphics-3d-smileys-082254

I have no idea why he thought it would be good to train them that way?? That's unfortunate, it is my understanding that they are used for protection by many, but I feel sometimes they have a bad reputation for being aggressive due to this. I have been subject to quite a bit of breed discrimination especially at the vets by the vet techs and such due to this. Personally mine is protective enough without protection training, yet never behaves aggressively towards anyone, otherwise he is a lovable cuddle bug..lol

I'm not going to lie, for the first few months I really didn't feel a connection and almost felt guilty for having another dog. But with the constant training I have done with him we formed such a strong bond. He chose me first I feel, he just wouldn't leave my side, and would wait at the door for me, I eventually gave in...lol

There is no bad dog, just bad owners. I agree! I wish more people realized this.
