We are supposed to go to a Horse Back Poker run this Saturday. We have been planning it for a month now. I am pretty excited to go - but it is about 2 hrs 15 min from home and we are driving home that night. Hubby is not looking forward to the drive and I am waiting for him to make some sort of excuse not to go. Please keep your fingers crossed that nothing stops us. My bucket list items are to "do" things with my horse other than trail ride. We have gone away and stayed for a week with the horses and that was fun - and I want to do more of those things. Hubby has a habit of bowing out at the last minute and making me miserable if I still want to do something.
Fingers crossed! Tillie has put on quite a few miles since I have had her (5 weeks now) and I am really having fun riding her. My daughter and I have been riding quite a bit and Tillie is filling out a little- but I think she will always have that skinny walking horse chest!

Agree carshon.... If he doesn't want to go, go without him.You can drive the truck & trailer can't you? If not, learn to. You have property to drag it around on learning how to turn it and back it up....make yourself some obstacles to learn how to go around them forward and in reverse... Once you got the hang of it on grass and dirt take it out on some roads and "play" around till really comfortable. Now go enjoy that ride and if he goes great. If he backs out, leave TV dinners in the freezer for him and you jump in the drivers seat, go and have a blast!! ....

Just go with out him and spend the night.. yours sounds like mine.. will say yes until that day and complain of stomach or cold. or hot or headache or pick a fight and get me all pissed off and i stay home... well a couple of times he did just that and i went and kept my plans and you know what.. he was here when i got back and he survived the time without me.. have fun and do that trail ride. and even if you just go forward and make a huge u turn.. i never learned to back up and i went to many a horse show and pulled that trailer in and out.
good luck and photos are required.

I am pretty good with the truck and trailer. We haul out a couple of times a week and I also pull a 16ft landscaping trailer for the small mowing business we have. It just irks me when he pulls that crap! And yes, Maddi and I had already planned on going even if he bows out.

We made it to the poker run. Hubby was actually excited to go. It was sponsored by the Wisconsin Gaited Horse Club. There were 36 registered riders. It was not what I thought it was going to be but was a lot of fun! Once you registered you could ride out at anytime. You were given an envelope with a card in it at registration, there were 4 regular stops and 1 bonus stop on the trail loop. We found the first 3 stops with no issue and got a helping hand at one of the stops for the bonus card stop. When riding to find it (on a more difficult trail off the regular trail loop) we came upon 2 hunters! The horses were a little nervous but the hunters got off of the trail and waited for us to pass. We kindly told them they were on a horse trail and more riders would be coming. I don't think they were supposed to be there -and I am so thankful they did not shoot when they heard us in the brush coming up the hill!
We then followed another smaller group of ladies who were looking for their last card too - we received some helpful advice from another rider and headed for the "Green" trail. We found all of our cards and the bonus card. Rode 2 1/2 hours and 11 miles - we talked to some really nice people, saw so many different horses, rode really rocky trails and were so happy with how our horses handled it all. Belle my hubbies horse was a pasture ornament from the time she was 4 until we purchased her in June. He has been taking lessons on her and we have ridden locally but this was her first big outing. She handled it so well! I have had Tillie for 6 weeks and ridden her weekly since purchasing her and she was a rock star! My daughters horse Gracie takes everything in stride so she was our rock.
We left before they had the final placings but they were kind enough to call and tell us that our daughter's hand got 3rs, hubbies hand got 4th and mine placed so low as to be MEH! so we won our entry fee's back.
We will definitely do something like this again. We drove 5 hours to ride 2 1/2 but the sights, sounds and people were worth the trip!

What a fun day you all had,,, and sometimes the ribbons and trophy does not compare to the family bonding..
