This barn, and trainer, are now in business about a mile from our farm. I watched them build this gorgeous facility, and it took about a year from start to completion. I don't know the people who live there, altho, I'm pretty sure that the BO and the trainer are two different people. I understand that the farm owner's family, owns 100's of acres of land along that road, and her passion is dressage. I wished they'd have an 'open house', but since I'm not 'in the know', as to who they are, I certainly wouldn't expect an invite. The whole time they were building this place, I kept thinking, 'Good lord, how much does something like that cost to build??? Just to run the electrical?? I've been to nice, high end, barns, but this one got me seriously thinking about the costs. I know what I spent to build my 'back yard barn', and it was plenty, (too much, really) for my 'hobby'. Of course, I LOVE our farm, and my barn, etc., but I do know it isn't a cheap hobby either. Since many people on the forum are BY barn owners also, we share that similarity. What, or how much, do you think something like this costs to build? As I said, they (apparently) didn't have any land costs, but I've got to figure this set up is getting on $200,000.+ I wonder how they price something like this, per square foot? Just curious about others thoughts, or ideas on costs to build, as well, operational costs? Its a pretty fancy facility, for my area, altho its very nice where we live,.., its just that many, most horse people here, are like me, BY barn owners. castlefarmandalusians.com/

I would easily double that number if this is a "upscale" barn with the special footing, regulation large indoor arena, outdoor arena, turnouts, and probably what 10 - 20 stall barn? Conservative # would be what you describe...
Fencing alone could easily cost upwards of $60,000.00 for fenced, cross-fenced paddocks, pasture, turn-outs and riding rings.
I had friends that built a Morton barn...18 stalls and small indoor arena attached for their private family use {yes, wealthy people} more than 25 years ago that cost over $100,000.00 It was nothing super special either...just stalls and dirt floors everywhere but under 1 roof. In their backyard....sigh.
jumping-horse...if this is at all a private facility for the private trainer to work with and for the barn owners horses... more than double those numbers in a heartbeat!! Everything will be done just so, no corners cut and no expense spared.
If the people have any top-notch competition horses regardless the riding discipline... you can just imagine the amenities happening inside.

I wondered if I was way too low on that number? I have no idea, but I thought how much electricians, and plumbers, charge, alone, BEFORE the actual building construction. It is a lovely building, but, LOL, it just looks like a HUGE worry to me. Maybe I'll get the opportunity to see some events, clinics, etc. there. Its so close to my house, it would be awesome!

Oh my gosh, I'm drooling! That place is beautiful!!!!! I'm betting your guesstimate of $200,000 is way low! I would love to take a tour of that facility in person, because I have a feeling that, despite how beautiful it looks in the pictures, it's probably even more incredible in person!
(Oh, and I'd love to see their Andalusians, too!)

I am assuming that place is in a swanky, maryland town and is going to cater to the upscale clients that are looking for horses and a place that is broom swept clean. That arena looks like 4-500 at least and that is not counting the house and property.
To build my area today would be at least 100,00 and i built it 25 years ago for 25,000 , and that was not counting the stalls. perhaps another 10,000 for the stalls. tack rooms lounge, and office since i was frugal and used timber from my land and had a portable mill and mill worker custom cutting what we needed. just look at the thread My Farm and see the over view of the property.
Now if that place were so close to me, and i were really interested in seeing it in person, perhaps just go over and introduce yourself. horse people are friendly. maybe they have something that will interest you to do. ?

LOL, I've decided that Zippy must never see this place. He is so sassy now, I can't imagine the 'attitude' if he thought he should live there, or be 'kept' in such a manner He would be impossible to live with!

The place is beautiful and so many choices for boarders to make...ca-ching, ca-ching!! Forget my "guesstimate"... much to low.Indoor arena, stalls, flooring in aisles, heated barn...outside riding rings and what is still planned but not completed...special footings... Take my $400,000 and double that!! The arena {indoor} alone cost as HL said very close if not over $200,000. Bet it is well over. Metal ones of this size cost almost $200,000.00 if they have seating, viewing lounge attached. I used to exercise my friends horse in one of this size but looked nothing like theirs does...we could have 10 riders {honestly} and all had ample room to ride, canter and not be up another tail!! Lessons can only be a "going rate" and don't ever not inquire if you think there is something you could benefit from by taking them on their or your horse...you live in "horse country" and although the place is fancy they still can only charge what the neighborhood will pay for lessons. 1/2 hour private...probably looking at $75.00 or so I would think. We all can benefit from good instruction, sometimes just need to mortgage the house it feels like to afford it. Board... if you have to ask in this kind of place, probably can't afford it. Training board guesstimate is $1500 - $2000 plus horses regular board!! {That is per month...}...so in the area of $2200+ per month think would be pretty close. Being the place is so much wood... I would like to see the hay storage/feed storage/shavings storage areas and the fire sprinkler system, where the heads are located, how many and how the system is powered if a well or in case of a power failure. Pet peeve of mine is fire safety!! That wedding venue looks nice for now but let the cobby webs get up their..and they will...ick! My concern would be someone smoking in the arena or adjacent to it and poof!!....it happens. Beautiful, but that is one heck of a lot of wood structure in sight. It is a gorgeous facility with much to offer. If you read the picture captions bet you could see who the farm ownership is... What I do wonder though is for a Anadalusians breeding, showing and training venue... the horses the trainer rode all looked to be Thoroughbred or warm-blood crosses...nothing struck me as "heavy" enough for "A"...then again maybe the breed has changed so much with refining by crossing in other blood-stock they no longer are as heavy boned as they once were... Enjoy watching the place take shape and hearing rumors of the good and bad...being your horses and you are so close by you will hear "details" from the local feed store, tack shop, hay dealer, farrier and vets....as you know the horse-world is a small place and the rumor mill is quite extraordinary...

Some of my thoughts too, included keeping it 'pristine, and clean',., How do you keep such a place, neat and tidy??!? I find it 'work' to keep my tiny barn, neat and orderly, let alone, cobweb free (its NOT cobweb free BTW ).
Might just have to mosey over there when the weather breaks. I just ran across their ad yesterday, didn't realize that they were anything more than a 'private' facility. I have heard the owner is a Dr.,.., Business must be pretty GOOD!
I'll happily report more, when I find out 'the deal'!

LOL, Horselady, Hill is no 'swanky Maryland town',.., just the opposite,., big acreages with crops grown. But, that we are a coastal area, there are high end beach houses, and waterfront estates, nearby. Just cracked me up with the 'swanky' part

My thoughts redzip on cleanliness....
When you can afford to build a place such as this and have a "exclusive" trainer on site for your horses, take in just a few boarders of your choosing...you can afford the army of labor to keep it pristine beautiful!!
Actually, if kept after daily, it is probably easier to keep in that condition than your smaller barn is...and they are starting out with everything "perfectly" new condition which sure helps. I know my {larger} house currently we live in is a lot easier for me to keep neat & clean than my smaller one... Wonder if it has a special ventilation system for dust control... hmmm

"Just like a good neighbor" some bread or a pie or something and take it over. and welcome them to the neighborhood. as for keeping it all clean. , just start in one corner and keep going, and put everything away that does not need to be out. i use kitchen cupboards and old dressers that are still usable to hold stuff. oh and a few hired hands to keep all tidy is what that place is going to have.

Sooooo,.., I dropped them an email saying hello, and inquiring as to short term boarding prices, clinics, and lessons. Got a very nice, prompt reply, saying that they will be having clinics open to the public, and they were adding me to their email list cool Also prices- $55 an hour for private lesson-haul in, $600 a month board with unlimited indoor use. $1300 a month training board with 5 training sessions per week, $395 per week training board. So thats the 'scoop', pricey, but a gorgeous facility to be right in the neighborhood. I'm excited to go check out any clinics, and get an actual 'look about',.., Could be so fun, and a great way to meet new horse people

Wow.. incredible pricing and not unreasonable at all for what they offer. I think their lessons prices are fantastic as are the others. If in a pinch and you have some serious issues happen, or just want a place to hang your hat for a needed break...this might be the place to head towards. Close to home, you can watch and see from the outsiders looking in viewpoint and know just how special the place is or isn't. Clinics...now there is a wealth of information to absorb by the right clinician in observance let alone participating in one!! Enjoy!!...

Great that they responded via e-mail and their prices are reasonable. like i said, just mosey on over there and introduce yourself. and what you have, or have to offer to help them out. even perhaps to volunteer when they have clinics so you do not have to pay, sounds like a fun place to have in the hood lol

Well, I 'fa-naggled' my way out of work, so weather depending, I think I'll go over and audit the clinic. $75 to attend, but since I'm not exactly sure what they will be doing, I'm thinking I'll just go and watch cool

Sounds like a good plan - audit this one, then participate in the next!
