15 years ago! My goodness, I didn't realize it was that long ago, I mean I just don't think of it that way.
I was working as a consulting forester in Washington DC, northern VA and southern MD in 2001. One of my jobs was to put together a bid for protecting the trees on the US Capitol grounds during their renovation for that underground museum they put in. It was a $3.5 million dollar job and we were so glad we didn't get it lol We did work on small projects related to increasing security around the Capitol in response to 9-11.
That day I was home getting that bid together and I saw the pictures on a news feed of the airplane hitting the twin towers. I thought it was a sick joke. And then I walked out onto the patio and I could smell the smoke from the Pentagon which was only 20 minutes from my apartment. I drove by the Pentagon and it was so eerie, total cognitive dissonance to see a big hole taking out a piece of the building! Simply didn't make sense!
I can only hope that I have 1/10th the bravery that those folks in PA had, I think of them often so I remember, always remember how absolutely wonderful we can be, a person can be, when they know that it is up to them to do what they can. We can "use" that inspiration in our day-to-day, even for small things like hitting the snooze button one less time, because what wonder might we miss if we miss an opportunity to serve the greater good by 9 minutes?

I do think of Sept 11th often, it's a sadness in my heart. On these anniversaries I just can't watch all the ceremonies and reminders, it bothers me too much.
Bless them all, they will never be forgotten.

It's a tragedy, but also realization how good and brave people can be. many lost their life and they will be always remembered across the world. Only a reminder that terrorism is a threat not only in Aerica but all around the world. And it most be stopped once and for all.
