Bella's hooves grew funny and as small as they were I was afraid I would do more damage than good If I trimmed them myself. I have done a lot of hooves but hers were different. An Amish farrier up in Michigan was recommended as one of the best around. The clinics send the horses that the regular farrier's don't wan to mess with. Anyway yesterday afternoon was a fun learning day. Bella loved all the attention that four of the small Amish boys gave her. The farrier looked Bella's feet over and said he had not seen anything like that. When he tried to trim her she was so afraid that she would rare up and fall. I sat on a pail and told him to lift her up on my lap and I could hold her. This is where all my rocking and holding paid off big time. She laid on my lap as if nothing was going on while he trimmed her hooves. When he was done he had his boys lead her around. He filed some a couple times and then said he was real happy how she was standing and walking. He wants her back in 6 weeks and after than he was sure her hooves would grow normal. The smallest Amish boy wanted to lead Bella some so I set and visited with the farrier. Bella loaded and backed out of the pickup like she had been doing it for ever.
Bella above and Trixie below.

Amazing what some skilled care, time and effort can do for such a little one...
Kudos for you for making what could be a traumatic time be quiet and restful for Bella...
She is a beauty, then so is Trixie too.

What a beauty,, and you put so much time and love and trust is being built with your babies that they will allow anyone to do something they are afraid of.

That's what good pet owners do, consider the feelings of their pet rather than insist it has to be done a certain way. But then you both enjoyed yourselves too, so win-win. I was talking to Gerald last night about all the ways we cater to our pets and livestock and he referred to Coda our dog as having two pets, us! LOL We do live to serve him and we do it gladly. That's why we all enjoy ourselves on this forum so much, we're all of the same mindset
