Since the only place I've found to board a horse will only take on a gelding, since previous mares haven't done well there, I guess I'll have to buy a gelding. Pretty much going to stay looking in MT and am not in a hurry. My heart really isn't in it yet. But here is one, seems heavy on the front but the ground is soft and the reining seems kind of harsh so may account for it. I'm selling my 1999 AQHA gelding. DYNAS MONTANA LYNX "Sparky" is 14.2. He is one of the favorites to ride. He loves to go and people. He is as broke as they come. He is soft in the mouth, flexes great. He knows the barrels, poles, roped a few calves off of him, packed elk out, can crack bull whips off of him, great trail horse. Will work a cow like crazy. Nothing scares him. He can get up and go when asked. He may be getting older but he still has a lot of life left in him. He is an easy keeper. A good home is a must. I'm asking $3800 OBO. I can send videos and more pics. Any questions message me or call/txt 4065295267 youtu.be/RHblsRYgmJoyoutu.be/yBjUAAjylqY with out a bridle Open to reasonable offers

I watched the videos of your first post.... What I saw every time is a head toss before the horse moved off... Horse also is only worked one direction....either video he only is asked for anything in a forward motion one direction. He also carries his head tilted and tipped continually, never straightens. Granted, a small circle but the horse to me overly tips his nose...
Look carefully with a critical eye, ride both directions in all gaits with any horse and make sure the person showing the horse rides first... If the person showing the horse refuses to ride...leave and don't look back. They know something you not want to find out about!!
Are there any photos of the second horse??
What areas specifically are you looking at to buy from? We all love to window shop and "help"..

If I can't find a nice using horse in Montana then I give up lol
If that girl were heavier on the reins and more demanding just a teeny bit she could rule Rhowanda, pee-youie

I like how responsive Sparky is. He seems to be a bit of a forward horse but he's quite well trained. It's hard to say how he'd be if the video showed him in an arena on even ground, it wasn't the best place to record a sale video.
Is that what horse prices are in Montana? Yikes! The second horse is definitely expensive for a horse of that age. Other than that I have no opinion.

Folks want to get those prices if the horse is a well worked ranch horse. Otherwise I don't see a lot of other horses since that's what folks do with them.
I was thinking I'd get a 20 yr old but worry that in five yrs when I go home he won't be able to take the long haul.

- I would not worry about hauling an older horse. Our vet just checked out 2 pregnant broodmares from Oregon. They were transported from Oregon to IL and both were in foal. Ages were 27 and 21. Our vet said they hauled well and looked fantastic. If you move them slowly and make lots of stops the horse should haul well. Check out any local rescues and see what they have - and try facebook groups in your area. Remember most of all you want a horse you can ride and know your own personality and tolerances

It depends on the condition, too. Prince is 18 now and he's totally healthy. My old senior horse was 27 when I got him and I wouldn't have worried about hauling him anywhere. Some horses just break down younger but you wouldn't buy one like that.

If I were rich I would, Northern, I'd buy them all lol
I'm in Bozeman, Montana all this week in training on a ranch. One of the pastures we were assessing had two horses grazing it and we all pet them. How wonderful is that?
