Last night and this morning I just mixed Zena's meds with a small amount of applesauce and a dash of apple juice, drew it up into my large syringe, and syringed it into her mouth. It's more work for me to try to squeeze into my already hectic schedule, but in the long run it's worth it because I can get it all into her fast, then she eats her grain right away, and I can get them all turned out into the dry lot without waiting an hour and a half (or more) for her to pick at her food.

I also cram the pills into pieces of jelly donuts. first give it to them plain than add the pills. oh and i once save a horse from vet call when i injected eclairs with mineral oil to help with his gas and not eating. he ate 5 of them and withing an hour was back to normal.

I have some good news to share for a change. The 2nd month's worth of meds arrived for Zena and Sis, so I picked those up today. That means I don't have to worry about having a lapse in their treatment. Yay! While I was at the vet's office picking up the meds, I was able to speak to the vet and she gave me the green light to go ahead and start working and riding both horses again! Now it's just a matter of waiting for the weather to cooperate (hopefully this weekend???). Since Zena has had such a roller coaster ride and hasn't been able to be on the meds consistently for the past 3 weeks, I'm going to give her a little more time off, but Sis acts like she feels great and she's been on the meds consistently for a little over 3 weeks now, so I am definitely looking forward to being able to start riding her again.

Happy news - Sis finished the last dose of her 2 month Lyme Disease medicine this morning! Hooray!!! It has been a long 2 months, but fortunately she never refused to eat it, she never had any ill effects from it, and she is back to her wonderful old self again.
Now we're just looking forward to Zena being done with the meds. Due to her various issues throughout this process, she missed a week of meds at one point, and she's missed a dose here and there at other times along the way. She eventually got to the point where she flat out refused to eat the meds with her meals no matter what we mixed it with, so for the last month or so of her treatment we are being forced to mix it with applesauce and syringe it into her mouth twice a day to get it in her, but at least she's getting it. Hubby has been a huge help with this, thank goodness, but we are both just ready to be done (and I'm sure Zena is too)!
