So sad. smileys-sad-593832 I know Lip is heart broken. But so much can happen with owning horses. Something we may or may not face in our life time of owning them.

It is hard to watch what she become in this few day from this beautiful horse. I think those images would not ever go away. We had a short time together but the hardest part is she trusted us and we failed her. These few years I lost few horses and it is starting to be to much. They did not deserve it. I pray she will forgive us.

Aw, Lip - it is not your fault that this happened. The filly knows that you loved her and you gave her such a wonderful life while she was here on Earth with you. I know how hard it is to remember the happy times rather than what just happened, but in time it will be easier to remember her full of life. I had a really hard time when I lost Mister. I have always been by my horse's side whenever I had to put one down and I felt that I failed him by not being there for him in his greatest time of need. I felt guilty thinking that if I had been there, I may have been able to do something to save him or at least ease the pain he may have been feeling. It ate away at my soul thinking these things (and still does if I allow it). What I had to do was tell myself (and believe) that once they pass on, they immediately forget the moments of pain they may have been in prior to dying. That they get to heaven and there is no more pain or suffering and that they remember us for all the love and devotion that we gave to them. They are in heaven, in lush green pastures with all their friends and they wait patiently for us to rejoin them, which I wholeheartedly believe we will. So please take comfort in the idea that your filly is no longer in pain and doesn't even realize she was ever in pain to begin with. I am hear if you need or want someone to talk to. Sending you lots of love and .

Well said MM. It is very hard to lose one that has a special place in your heart. I still get teary eyed when I think of my Paly Cricket I lost back in 08. smileys-sad-593832 We had a bond that I can't even explain. I haven't had a horse like that since. Probably never will again.
Lip it's not that you failed her. It's gods choice that he needs her.

So difficult, wish I was closer to hug you.
You and your family have NOT failed her. She will know ALL of the days she was loved and cared for, she knows that even now, she can feel your love. All of that cannot be erased.

I'm so sorry Lip.... smileys-sad-593832
You have not failed her.... You have set her free to run the heavens above....
It takes more love to release a animal from Earthly bonds than to hold them here and allow them to suffer... As she is released she will be met at Heavens gate by the angels.... She will run free and happy... And she will know you loved her so much you put her before you and your feelings...you let her go home to heaven. .... ....

I'm so sorry for your loss.
I agree with what others have said though, you have not failed her. She was loved and cared for, which is more than many horses get in their lifetimes. She never knew harshness at the hands of humans, again, something most horses cannot say.
By making the choice to end her suffering you are doing opposite of failing her. It would be failing her to prolong her suffering and allow her to struggle with little to no chance of recovery until her body gave up on its own. You are showing her a kindness, even though it must be incredibly painful for you and your family.
Wishing you peace and solace in this difficult time.

We have all been there. the hardest thing in life is death.. either an animal or person. at least with animals we can ease their pain and help them cross over. and not watch them continue to suffer. When i have one that is down and i know it is almost time. i give them my prayers. love and if they are eating as much food as they will eat. and i also give them shots of pain management medicine. and when the vet arrives there is no trauma. Only in my heart... i still cry for mine.. and it is not a sign of weakness. it is a sign of strength that we were able to say good bye..

Just saw this, so sorry! It's so very hard when losing one from old age, but one so young is just too hard to understand. You did everything you could. Wish I could give you a giant hug!

Thank you all for support. No matter what I say to myself it is hard not to feel guilty. She will be remembered like every horse of mine. I wan't feel sorry for her body that will end u who knows where, but to cherish the fackt that her soul is free and at peace.

Lip- having been through this so recently with Steve - I know your pain. You did everything you could. And sometimes it is just their time to move on. I really like MM's post and will think about that when I cry and think of Steve.
Your filly was loved and cared for - think of the horses that you know in your local area that we cannot say the same thing about. She had people fighting for her and doing what they could for her. So much more than what many animals have.
You did the right thing and she only knew love at the end.
