This morning at first light I looked out and Kacie was standing out on the freezing rain. I had shut her in the shelter and quickly went out with it now showing like crazy. She had kicked the North side out of the shelter. The rain and now had soaked the bedding and getting covered with . Kacie had a pouch of membrane hanging out with fluid in it. I called my Son in law and Grandson and they had one of their drivers come to take Kacie to the clinic. The Vet pulled the colt and the placenta was a brownish red color. The Vet said it was and infection that had killed the foal and she was trying to expel it. The Vet said he had several already this winter. He has 20 mares in his maternity pens today that people had brought to him to keep watch over. I don't remember the name of the infection but he thought it was the strange weather. They are having infection problems around here in cattle as well. Not a fun day. On a good not while I was at the clinic our lift chairs were delivered and when I came home they were set up in place. The picture makes it look like the one chair is close to the stair steps. Not the case, there is plenty of room to walk behind them.

Aw dickel, I'm so sorry to hear about Kacie and her foal. Is Kacie going to be alright? Is she still at the clinic being watched? That must be so heartbreaking for you.
The chairs look nice.

She tried to expel it in the night. We took her the clinic as it was beach. the placenta was a pale brownish color. The Vet said it was an infection that had killed the foal colt and she was expelling it. The Vet said he had seen several like that this winter. He said that there was nothing I could have done to keep it from happening. Today he has 20 large horses in his maternity pens that people had brought in for him to watch.

This is crazy! I posted here and hit the create button and received a phone call. Folded up my laptop and went into the office to take the call. Came back and it was not here. I was having a different problem with this window 10 system so I restarted it and checked again so I posted about Kacie in miniature horse. I just now see this first one is here.

So sorry that happened to Kacie. we had a horrible year in the mid 90's from foals being born premie or dead or stuck, hate to be so blunt but thee is no other way to say it.. we lost about a third of our foal crop.. sooo i got on the phone and started to contact other mini horse breeders in the state and in new jersey and penn. and mass. many of them said the same thing. they were loosing so many foals. after some testing and trying to figure out what the problem was. my vet decided it was a rhino outbreak.. even tho the horse had been vaccinated against it. the infection was in the mares system and that caused the deaths. NOW i am not saying that is what caused hers but i know how much a mystery they are. oh love the chairs,, great color and looks comfy

Kacie is doing fine. I still have her in the house garage. That makes a smelly mess just inside the back door but we have to do what we have to do. With about 9 inches of and winds of up to 30 MPH I have not been able to put the side back on her shelter. I have to give her shots and couldn't figure out a way to give them in the and wind. I was worried up until this morning as she had not had a bowel movement until some time in the night and then again around eight this morning. She never was off feed and was thirsty as soon as she was back from the Vet. The foal came out solid black but the Vet said it would have turned gray. You could tell it needed a few more weeks in the oven.
