So I have renauds disease, my doctor said spicey foods would help a little, every winter I make this soup weekly and it does, I do change the ingredients a little so Ill give both, enjoy Plus I know you all are suffering with cold weather! Curried Red Lentil Soup 1/2 medium onion or leek, finely chopped 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 garlic glove, chopped(I omit this as I hate stinking of garlic!) 1 teaspoon of grated peeled fresh ginger 1 1/2 teaspoons curry powder 1 teaspoon ground cumin 1 cup red lentils 4 1/4 cups chicken or ham stock 2 medium tomatoes, peeled, seeded and diced(I use 2 grated carrots or sometimes 1 potatoe instead sometimes) Fresh lemon juice to taste Salt & Pepper to taste In a large saucepan cook the onion in the oil until its lightly golden(I cook mine longer). Add the ginger and garlic and cook for 1 minute while stirring. Add the curry powder and cumin, cook for another minute stirring all the while. Add lentils and stock(and carrots or potatos if you used them) Bring to the boil then simmer covered for 25 minutes. Stir in the tomatoes if using and simmer again stirring occasionally for 5 mins. Season the soup with lemon juice and salt and pepper to taste, serves 4. Dont be scared to try it, its quite tasty, I promise, even my friend who hates indian food enjoys this soup!

That soup sounds like a hearty one that i would put over rice. going to try it, and the curry could be decreased depending on personal taste. thanks for sharing.

I have what is probably a silly question. What do lentils taste like? I have been a picky eater all my life but have decided this year to try new foods.
