He smells like a fart, it isn't like their poo, it is most definitely like a fart but all of the time. I'm sorry but it's the best description. Does he simply need a bath? I thought it was his digestive issues from eating Shopko food, but I've been switching over to Purina and he still smells. Does he need a bath? Princess doesn't have a bad smell. Is it my karma somehow, because Maki likes to be cuddled and Princess doesn't?
The cat food says to feed 1/2 cup per day. But they're skinny so I've been feeding 50-100% more. I feed twice a day 1/4 cup and on the weekends I'll feed 3x per day. Every time I walk in the kitchen they yell at me that they're starving, but I'm thinking not really lol
So far I haven't found any cat puke, which is a big plus. Maki tried once but I moved him to a more pukeable location and he quit. For some reason I didn't want him puking on the quilt I was making, go figure.

Not sure about the smell. Perhaps he is not as diligent about cleaning himself? Does he look dirty on his bottom?
Did their previous owner leave food out to eat ad lib? I leave dry food out for mine but split a small can of wet food between the two at night to get some moisture in Casey (he is prone to urinary crystals).
If you are feeding 1/4 cup twice a day, you are feeding the recommended 1/2 cup per day (right?).

Morris smelled really bad, until I got him fixed. He sort of smelled sour. He loves to lay across the back of my neck when I am sitting in my chair. It wasn't good when he was stinky.
Hannah does smell like a fart. I think she does fart a lot. I have never heard her fart, but she is the only one that smells that way. I'm lucky though, because she isn't a cuddle bug.
Missy is a long haired cat and she pukes, a lot. I have some stuff that comes in a tube, that is called hair ball remedy. I squeeze an inch of it along my finger and they lick it right off. Well everyone, but Missy, who hates it, so she still pukes. A lot.
I just have my cays on full feed, Purina indoor complete, and they seem to be able to regulate themselves. I was giving them canned cat food as a treat once a day, but Morris was hogging it, and seemed to be getting a little fat, so I stopped. He is a big boy, but I wouldn't call him over weight now.

Do cats have anal glands like dogs do? Possibly they need "expressing" is what I think my vet called it, meaning, "Cleaned out?"....
My dogs,1 male and 1 female...both "fixed" are seen by the vet often enough and I don't ask and they don't say what they are necessarily doing in that region but wrinkle the nose time it is... I know dog groomers, well...part of a grooming routine isn't it??

Personally i think all dogs and cats need meat. as they are not going to find cereal in the wood when hunting. perhaps he is spraying on himself if he was not fixed. and if they are thin they will need that protein to grow and get fat on their bones. and i would not want a animal puking on a quilt i was making either (that is if i made quilts lol)

Maki isn't fixed so maybe nonfixed males fart more. So Gerald is the exception that proves the rule? Lol, he always blames it on me when we're in public so I guess it doesn't count?

Ruh Roh - please tell us that Princess is fixed???
In my experience, un-neutered cats tend to spray things to mark their territory. I hope that is not what you are experiencing!

Well i think you might have to keep those two separated so you do not have little kittens running around she might be preggos now. and yes that smell is him marking his turf. call and get him neutered asap. tractor supply has clinics and they could do it. and so does the humane shelters. and rescues.

I would imagine what you are smelling is Maki spraying. Tom spray does have an unusual and foul odor. Best thing to do would be to have him altered. That usually stops it, but sometimes it has become a learned behavior and they continue. A really good scrubbing with an enzyme cleaner should help. A bath for Maki might not hurt either.

They've been living together for 5 years so I figure Princess is spayed. I don't smell stink anywhere but on Maki, and I noticed it isn't as constant as I thought, so he must be actually passing gas. He's worse than me. Gerald's going to call our vet and see if it would work to neuter Maki when I go home, otherwise I'll find a vet here.

I had another thought about Maki this evening... how is his mouth? He might not be gaining weight if his mouth hurts and a lot of oral health issues will have a foul odor

I just over to smell his mouth, he thought I was a nutjob lol No odor there. He is definitely farting. And yeah, while I know I have to get them to a vet ASAP, it's like that "one more thing" I was putting off with all the other "gotta do it nows"... but I suppose that's just an excuse. Although they seem healthy. I haven't had them that long to know if they're gaining, they're sure not losing. Very active lol I've taken to shutting my bedroom door at night. Although when I have to go potty it's all over but last night, I was shocked, I slept all the way from about 10pm to 430!!! Amazing!!!

LOL - it sounds like you are dealing with issues a new parent has. I still remember the thrill of sleeping through most of the night when Shane was just a wee little lad.
