My neighbors dogs are let out and come into my yard attacking my dogs , one has already chased my husband up our driveway . The neighbor is deaf and we can't go into the yard to tell them because the dog will attack us. My husband wants to shoot the dogs , they have chased the horses and now I am afraid to let the kids out because of the dogs . My youngest son is Autistic and will not run from the dog . I don't know what to do ?

Sounds harsh - but your husband is right. Shoot the dogs or call the sherriff and explain what is going on. In our county you are perfectly in your rights to shoot an aggressive dog on your property. as long as you have a FOID car and a legal fire arm.

Call the sheriff or animal control immediately and explain the situation. I'm assuming you don't have the phone number(s) of a friend or relative of the neighbor? Maybe you need to write a note and leave it in their mailbox explaining what chaos their dogs are causing and that you will take action if seen on your property again.

I have called the Sheriff and they say I can shoot the dog ,but I don't want that as an option we have no animal control here unless I call the county next to us and they say call the sheriff . Maybe I will see them and let them know what there dogs are doing . They were the ones that when we first moved here they said one of our dogs attacked them so we put the dog down ,and later found out it was another dog that looked just like ours and is still on the loose chasing people . No apology was ever given .

For your protection...I would not "in person" arrive at that house alone. Call the sheriff and ask them to escort you, witness the conversation and also as protection if their dogs should decide to attack you.... You can BET I will shoot and shoot to kill any dog that threatened my child, my husband or myself.I might not even need a gun if I could get my hands on that dog I would be very capable of strangling it to death to protect me and mine but especially, my son... You have a special child who if you don't protect and advocate for... no one else will step up and do it like you! The choice of your kid being mauled or the dog dead... dog dead!!
"I have called the Sheriff and they say I can shoot the dog ,but I don't want that as an option" I'm sorry, I truly don't understand what kind of option you seek... If the dogs owners won't restrain their dog to their property or keep it from your land and threatening "YOUR HUSBAND" let alone your disabled child... You don't really have a option.... Vicious, attacking animals that could harm my defenseless child....no brainer that it is that dog not my kid!

I agree! If the dogs are a threat to you or yours you have every right to shoot them. I have had 2 lately that have showed up. The first day Tony fired at them just to scare them. It worked but they were back. One came up on my front porch. I opened the door and even though it acted friendly. I don't want them to chase the horses or get my chickens. So I grabbed my pistol and fired a shot behind it. smileys-cowboy-004168Needless to say it hauled ass out of here. Haven't seen them since. Plus my ears were ringing all day after that. I found out who they belong to. I want to say something to them in a friendly manner. But my neighbors said not to mess with him because he is nuts. So if the dogs show up they will be shot and gotten rid of. They follow him out the dirt road when he leaves. If I see him I will mention that they aren't welcomed here and if they go after my livestock I will shoot them. I don't think he wants me to involve the sheriff. They don't take to pot smokers here and that he does. Plus he doesn't want to come jump in my case. As I will take that as a threat and I can legally shoot him!!

Why not have a police officer go with you with a handwritten note explaining the situation?. i would think someone who hears does also live in the house so perhaps see them also. and if you have to shoot than shoot. and being deaf is no excuse for disobeying a leash law situation or being irresponsible with a dog.

Anyone else thinking HA posse with pink bats? I would hate to kill a dog too but the "no action" alternative is worse for you and yours. At the same time I would do as HL suggested and ask the Sheriff to come out with you, they are there for your protection and to make the notice official so that you can get this escalated if you need. Yup, I'd definitely go that route.
