So Ive moved the older chick and dad to another smaller cage height wise today, its time for it to fledge and its not happening! Dad is sitting in the middle of the cage looking in the nest and chick is looking out chirping non stop, I have food and water on the cage bottom and a nice low perch for it but its still preferring the comfort of the nest, Ive been told to leave it alone, I just hope it doesnt starve to death!
Other 2 chicks are still growing, slowly, so demanding, thank god I never had kids!

I can only imagine how nerve-wracking and stressful this must be for you. Sounds like you're doing everything you can, and so far so good! Keep up the good work!

I suppose dad is having withdrawls from not being in the other nest with all those babies. and please i am sure you will, but you have to feed the baby, just in case. dad does not or it does not venture out to eat. he probably does not know what to do since his mom would have taught him to leave the nest.

sorry its been so long, Ive been having a bit happening and Im down. Lost both the younger chicks, youngest to black spot, I learned the hard way, he should have been euthanised at hatching, Ill know for next time, I thought it was a birthmark, other chick no idea what happened, at bedtime it was crawling up my chest, morning gone, I am devestated, cried buckets, he was feathered up and everything:( Only survivor is this one Attachment Deleted

He sure his beautiful and you did the best you could under the circumstances. you had no idea what to do and how to do it and you learned as you went along. So perhaps with the next batch there will be more survivors. and a mom to tend to the chicks.

Hey all, well my one surviving chick is still doing great, his adult colours are now starting to come in, I'll post some pictures later, I moved him in with another male gouldian who he is now trying to court!....his dad is in with my remaining female. Unfortunately I lost my old cordon bleu, not sure why, he was just on the bottom of the cage, he'd been singing and bathing earlier, I took him out and put him under a heat lamp but he passed fairly quickly:( Last night one of my rescued owl finches was egg bound, she has been before, not sure why she's even laying, no nests in there, but anyway they have egg mix, good quality food and calcium supplement and cuttle bone, this time though she died .....I massaged her vent with olive oil, gave her warm baths but to no avail, I kinda had a feeling she wouldn't make it, I feel bad for her mate who is constantly calling for her, he's in with another pair but I still feel bad. I can honestly say I don't know how people can breed birds or animals, so heartbreaking when things go wrong, finches are the worst birds too, so sensitive plus they hide if they are sick so you can't tell till it's too late plus the vets don't know much about treating them:( Anyway I'll take some pics of son of eagle boy later:)
