Is that the end of the story? So far! Hes very keen on the lone female I have, she's a bit old for him though, he sits next to her and does the little mating dance, she's never been keen on any of the boys so I don't fancy his chances!

Maybe she's just playing hard to get, or maybe she's already been through her bird-o-pause or maybe he just doesn't trip her trigger. I wonder if you were to make him a little birdie leather jacket with chains and a pack of Marlboro's tucked up in his t-shirt sleeve so he could strut around and play the "bad boy bird"?

, you're hilarious! I don't have a nest box in the cage, it's kinda sad losing babies, I'm not breeder material, last time was a surprise and the ones I hand fed and especially the older one that died for no reason, he had feathers and everything and seemed healthy broke my heart so not ready yet, Eagle boy is the one who loves to breed, I may look for another girlfriend for him but not right now, as in humans the males can breed till they are real old!

I lost my pretty little Lady G a few days ago. I have no idea how old she was, but I had her for years. When her Husband died, I put her in with my two hand raised Zebra boys. She was the only finch that didn't pick on them.
The boys were really quiet the first two days, but today they are back to beeping like they usually do. I won't try to get them another finch for company. Being hand raised, they don't have the social skills to get along well with other Zebras. Even the Society's picked on them. Lady G was the only finch who seemed to be able to put up with them.
Now I am trying to picture the boys in tiny leather jackets.
Here are my babies at maybe two days old
This is Asta fully fledged.
They are 6 years old now. I need to get an updated picture.

Awww, thank you MM. Both the boys are white with little peachy cheeks. They aren't hand tame anymore, but I still love them.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear about LadyG, no wonder she didn't want to breed anymore, she was just too tired. Sorry Diamond How impossibly small those babies are! Amazing! Of course finches are so small anyway. Where my mom lives they have large bird terrarium thing with all kinds of little finchie types. I love to watch them. So perfect and so exquisite. Just like Asta, he does have peach colored cheeks, I love that! I think it takes a lot of care to raise finches. My exhusband had some and he thought that it would be easy but they are quite particular I think.

You're making me want to get more finches. I miss my finches, but I can't get Greg to agree to let me have more because they're just so fragile. I lost my Gouldian finch and a parrolet to a snake that found its way into Mom's house and my cage. I loved my zebra finches too but a friend of my brother's sprayed Axe body spray right in front of the cage and killed my pair. I have NO luck with finches. At least my cockatiels are doing well.

Yes they are very fragile, one of my lavenders is off right now so I split the pair into a cage with heat lamp, nothing's developing but I hadn't shut he door right to that room and Rambo the cat got in and knocked the cage off the table, they are ok but one now has sore eye, great, Rambos been in kennels since, I needed a break from him!...keeping cats off cages is a nightmare, I have the scatt thing which works but need abiut 3 of them to cover all angles as he's smart and works out how to get past it, plus every time hubby walks by it for water it goes off and wastes air and those things aren't cheap:(
I tried a few of the scent methods but Rambo didn't care
