Our new puppy is not a puppy almost a year old an is supposed to be Schnauzer and terrior mix, i saw her on a fb page and said to hubby how ugly she is cute. he said go get the dog. it was three days talking to the owners mother. when he called me to ask final questions as to who we were and how we were going to care for her. I also mentioned the horses and told him to look up our website of the horse retirement we do. He mention he wanted to give me the dog and wanted to meet me and bring me the dog and if he decided we were a good fit he would leave her with me. so the next morning he drove an hour to bring her to me. and as you can see she stayed. she is a cutie. and needs weight. but that is not a problem in this house. without further ado meed LUCY

She looks like Toto from the Wizard of Oz. She's cute! Good for you for giving her a home. Why didn't the owners want her anymore?

Haha, she does look like Toto. She looks right at home with your crew.
I'm curious too, why didn't they want her?

She does look like toto. that was my first thought. he was telling me on saturday when they came to see me. he had spent 4 tours of duty in the middle east. his wife.(second one) is from oklahoma and they have 3 kids. he wanted to move back to new york to be near his mother and perhaps get work. he has pts and is near a va hospital to help cope with that. he and his wife and the 3 kids are living with his mom and since they are looking for work and jobs. and a place to live. apparently no one wants dogs. and since they will be out of the house for many hours they felt it was right to let her go., the kids are upset of course and the couple had the mother of this one and her siblings and they found homes for them in oklahoma.. i am lucky to have her and she is a love bug. loves to sit and sleep on a lap. smileys-dogs-171634
MM the only thing she needs at this point is more weight. she is 9 pounds and should be 12-15. i can not fathom why people feed their dogs dry dog food and wonder why they are so thin. oh and she needs shots and spaying. i feel for these people . rough road they have had and we will keep in touch with them.

I like her looks. Toto for sure but I find her beautiful to look at not otherwise. She looks intelligent and kind. A few pounds in your home to gain...heavens in no time she will need to be on a diet!!
A spay and current vaccinations to get done...something you as a conscientious owner will see is done.
She is lovely HL....enjoy her and her companionship she offers... smileys-dogs-171634 ...

Dogs are fine on dry food. That's all we feed. It's better for their teeth than wet. And they gained weight while I was in the hospital because Jim wasn't portion controlling them. Since I've been able to feed them myself they've all gone back to a proper weight except Chloe the pitbull. She's a chunky monkey. She always has been since we've had her. When we got her the guy had her so that her spine jutted up and said his vet said she was a good weight.

nhg,, dry is ok if it is a good quality, but the dry these people were feeding her did not have the indregients in it that i would want to feed a dog without supplementing with meat. so i will be giving her a tablespoon of meat ( i cook ground beef and chicken) a few times a day to help with her skin and coat which need fat and moisture.

To update on Lucy, she has gained a pound and i took her to a low cost vet that GAVE me ear medicine. topical flea ointment. did her nails. and worm pills. and i only paid for shots. parvo. rabies. and distemper. she is looking and feeling sooo much better, and is at least learning the routine of the house and loves the yard.
