Could you please look over this ad for my trailer and let me know if I need to add or change anything? (If you click on the picture it will make it a bit bigger). Also, what do you think of the price? Similar new trailers are selling for around $5500 - am I asking too much? Thanks! Attachment Deleted

I would add the weight if you know it, but other than that it looks great!
I think your price is reasonable as well.

Looks pretty good to me. One thing that I would have to ask, because I'm not that familiar with stock trailers, is how many animals it can hold? Like I'm sure some idiot could probably cram in more than it should have, but is it kind of set up with interior ties for maybe 3 horses? Again, I just have no idea. But the basic ad looks great - year, model, and interior dimensions are the biggest pieces of info, and you wouldn't believe how many people don't include them!
Also if you're listing on Craigslist or online places, be sure to added some more sentences that will bring searchers to your ad. As written, someone doing a search for "horse trailer" would not find it because you list it as a "stock trailer." Some ideas .... Horse trailer, 2H, 3H, BP, "not gooseneck," axles, bumper pull, pull-behind, CM Trailer (as opposed to CM Stock trailer), etc. Honestly, when I was looking, I found that the word "saddle rack" was almost the best phrase to use for searching trailers on craigslist, because nearly EVERYONE would put in their ad whether or not it had a s.addle rack.
Best of luck in selling!

Thanks everyone. If/When I post online, I will definitely write more up and put in some keywords that will come up on a search but thanks so much for thinking of a lot of them for me lady! I was first trying to get a flyer of sorts made up to post at the barn and feed stores and what not.
Not sure of the actual weight of the trailer but the GVWR is 8600 lbs and GAWR is 4300 lbs each (which makes sense). I guess I could look on the registration to see if it has a weight listed.
As for how many horses it can fit, you could probably have them line up "slant-ways" and max would probably be 4 unless they are Reggie sized!

I would not list a weight, MM. Unless you take it to scales and are absolutely sure...leave it alone. Registrations are known to be wrong sometimes. Any one looking at a trailer like that knows immediately you don't tow it with a matchbox car but a heavy duty truck.
If you are going to add any information... A center slam gate {divider} if it has one Semi-stock if you have designated stall area with a divider up front Do you have a rear door slider? Many look for those so if there list it. Possibly size of tire, as in 15" or 16" ....spare tire? Underneath manger storage for tack, feed or such... Front full size escape door... Bumper pull hitch with a ?? ball... Mats???

HL4L just listed everything I'd want to know as well. And if there's no center divider in the back door, like a post or something, some people really like that because it gives them the option of taking other things besides animals in it such as quads.
Do you guys call a stock trailer that has a divider and a tack area a semi stock? We call them stock combos up here.

I'm not sure what they call them down here. This is a true stock trailer - there is no tack compartment anywhere. If I was keeping the trailer, I was going to bring it to a friend to put up a wall in the "nose" section so I could store my tack there but I never got around to doing it.
Thanks again for all the advice and ideas.

nhg.... My trailer when I bought it new was advertised as a semi-stock. 4-horse capacity. Other companies do call them "stock combo".... 2 dedicated stalls with head and body divider that can be slid to the side or completely removed. Full side escape door that a horse can actually get through if we had to do that...{hope never!!} My trailer has mangers and under the mangers from outside I have a locked storage area...can be used for tack or feed or whatever you want. So, front is 2 straight stalls, then a mid section slam gate then I have ties for 2 more horses in the rear of the trailer. My trailer has a sliding rear door beside the ability to open fully. It swings open and is a step up trailer. 7'+ height {forgot exact height}, 6'8" wide inside the trailer horse compartment. My trailer is fully matted inside. LED lighting inside in rear and front compartment with individual switches for on/off. I have rear LED lighting for dusk/dark loading but don't plan to ever need them but you never know. Spare tire secured on side {we locked it on under a tire cover}. Outside my trailer there are "tie" loops so we can tie while tacking..... Ummm... think that is it.
Oh... I looked. No longer do they offer my trailer in a 4-horse size. I have several "options" done to my trailer which also customized it I guess...all I know is it works for me and I love it!! I bought it sight unseen from a ad description after I had seen other trailers same brand and liked what I saw. My trailer is all steel too...
I like your trailer very much MM... has some very similar things.

HL4L, your trailer sounds really interesting. I'd love to see pictures. One thing you never see up here is such an open area on the sides like MM's trailer. The trailers will have open slats but they'll only have maybe half as many height wise. It gets too cold here in the winter.

I put the trailer on craigslist and already have one person asking if it is available.
Question to those who sell horses, trailers, etc. - what type of payment do you accept? Of course I know cash is probably best but can I really expect someone to bring me $4000 in cash?

If they come and look and decide to buy than take a deposit an agreed amount. let us say $200.00 write up a bill of sale stating who is selling. who is buying. names and addresses. and what it is. make. model id number etc. and balance upon pickup in either cash or money order or bank draft, and remember to mention about the peeling roof and take photos . . remember even a bank draft can be stopped with proper paperwork from the bank. and if a person is going to buy something they should know you are going to NOT take a personal check for anything. hope it works out and it is sold . oh and they drive it out the driveway. not you deliver. once it is gone it is their responsibility because it is attached to their truck not yours.

Paperwork states "AS IS" on the bill of sale along with the other things stated before. Right now I have a horse for sale... Tire kickers, spammers and legit have been in contact. I've already had "we will send you a certified/bank check with extra in it for your trouble"... didn't want to see the horse or ask any questions. When I told them "CASH ONLY" I never heard from them again...beware!!I used my cell # as it isn't traceable to my home address... I will not take anything but CASH, no check, no paypal, not bank or certified check either. CASH and only CASH!
Even today when purchasing a house I found you submit your banking information to your attorney and they do the transactions needed so no "forged" checks or issues take place. At least that is how it was for us... Honestly, $4000 sounds like so much it isn't today. If they are serious about purchasing, they will have a license plate in hand and your cash. Till is in your hand you sign nothing....

Thanks. I think I will stick with cash. Just got off the phone with someone who said he thought it was worth in the low 3s. I told him I only just posted it and have had 2 other people asking about it so I couldn't go that low (plus it is really is worth more than that). I need to get on top to see if there is any rusting from the paint peeling. I know elsewhere there is very, very little surface rust. Bill of sale and deposit is a good idea (why didn't I think of that). Here in Louisiana, all title transfers must be notarized so they would need to meet me somewhere to get that done before they can take the trailer. Oh and good idea about not delivering HL4L, thank you. P.S. Here's the link to the CL ad: neworleans.craigslist.org/grd/5197814918.html

So curiosity got the better of me and I went out to double check the roof for rust - no rust up there. In fact the only real rust I found was a small (nickel-sized) spot on the bottom of the escape door and on/around the hitch (and that truly is just surface rust). Believe it or not, I only just bought that hitch lock. I'd always somewhat worried about leaving my trailer on my property unprotected but I figured if I had strange people coming to look at it, I certainly did NOT want it available to anyone just to come take it while I was asleep or at work. Besides it was less than $30. Attachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

Don't ever tip your hand about others interested or not. Just tell them to come look, if interested further in owning it they can present a price to you and you can either agree to it or say "No"... It is your trailer, it is your price. Do you have another vehicle you could place in front of the trailer if you're worried about theft?
I have several gates and fences you need to get through to get to my barn area. Now they are chained & padlocked shut... I also have the same worry the horses, they could go missing. Thank-goodness for great neighbors who were out the door the other day when strangers entered my yard. They politely asked what they were doing, watched and made themselves seen while they were here... For me, some good peace of mind that they watch so close. I do the same for them though and we all have very noisy dogs alerting us.... ...

Yeah, he asked me what my lowest was and I just told him I had just posted it, others interested and right now was fairly firm on the price. I think he was trying to push me as he mentioned he works offshore and was leaving tomorrow evening. I just told him to maybe check and see if it was still posted when he got back.
I'm not too worried about it now the lock is on it (although I guess someone could always pick the lock). I have good neighbors too that will keep an eye on it for me as well.

I've had quite a bit of interest since posting on craigslist, a few who I am trying to get together with so they can see the trailer.
Then, there is always a scammer/spammer. Just got this message, twice:
Are you the actual owner and for how long has this been in your posession ? I can meet you anywhere that is convenient for the two of us to talk about it Wha is your asking amount and will later today work for you anytime after 6 ? How about meeting at a Public Library, Walmart parking lot or somewhere around there ? Would that be okay for you? Let me know your thoughts asap at my direct address
I flagged it with craigslist as a scam/spam. I wonder how many people fall for it?

Cashier's check, or trailer stays in your possession until any other type check clears you bank. be careful with cash too, you never know. Cashier's check has to be purchased and has to clear your bank also. I sold a PT Boat engine (long story, belonged to my Dad) for $5000 a few years ago. My bank held the check for 7-10 days until it cleared and then the guy made arrangements to pick up the engine. Do NOT give your checking acct number, etc to wire funds to your acct. I know you know this stuff, but can't be too careful.
