I fixed a more solid gangplank for Dandy to get in and out of the pickup yesterday. It took several time for him to be confident that it would not wiggle like I had been using. Today he went in and out on command.

How cute. I have a question though - what is attached to the cheek ring on his halter?

How cute. I have a question though - what is attached to the cheek ring on his halter? Since Dandy was a few months old he could walk thru the electric rope. Without stopping he would put his head between the ropes on an angle, step over the bottom rope with his right leg and then his left leg and continue on out. He never run off and would come as soon as he would see me. After he was weaned I put him in a solid fence pen. When I moved him back to a lot with electric rope last fall he stayed in until this spring and he would get out at day break. I hung a chain that would hit the bottom rope and he decided he would not continue thru. Most of the horses wonder off when they get out and I have to hunt them down. Dandy would just hang around the back yard and munch on grass. When I would go out he comes for his kiss and hug. I teach them that the work kiss means that they put their nose on my cheek. A hug is when I put my cheek on their forehead. At feeding time the foal's have to give me both before they get any sweet feed. I start the kiss and hug commands day one when I start rocking them. I rock them twice a day while their mothers are eating grain and do this for two weeks. Most likely I just give you more information than you wanted but I am old and windy. In person and in type.

what a great idea. the chain conducts just enough electricity to make them decide not to challenge the fence.

Such a cutie! It must be hard keeping minis in, I know in scotland they struggle with . they are always going under and through fences even the proper fencing, I guess thats why I dont see may in canada, too much of a pia to keep them in!
