LOL Don't buy anything you really like? My only way I would save money is too:
1. sell horses
2. sell LQ and stock trailers.
Since we live on a fixed income now. We watch how we spend. We really don't need to much. Our biggest cost will be fencing. But we will buy that as we can afford to. We have the rest of our life to get it done. :-)

I bought a few dozen ears of corn and i will steam just a few at a time and than cut the corn off the husks and freeze the corn. that way it is handy for winter to make into anything. cornbread, fritters. cream corn. just heat and eat.

I buy things that are on sale. Especially at the grocery store. I love the bogo sales. I think next year I will do more canning of things to save on food cost. We have a discount food store that we can get some pretty good deals at. I found a produce auction that the Amish have in another town. Want to check it out next season...

I cook less. and if it is a one pot meal like pot roast i freeze or use it again a few days later a different way.
i try not to get pulled into the impulse items at the store.
hubby and i eat one pork chop each and the rest are veggies and salad. i make a roast chicken and use that for different receipes

I've found that our local dollar stores are really expanding their food sections. Some are a great deal & I can save anywhere from $1 to $3 on items compared to grocery store. Also we are lucky to have a nice IGA about 30 minutes away with a great butcher. They have so much turnover that it keeps their meat prices pretty low. About once a month I go over with ice packs and cooler and stock up the freezer!

Those items in the food stores...buyer beware of where those items come from...food stuffs from overseas are now infiltrating our store shelves and are not of the quality and meeting the standards of production you may think...toothpaste and most anything is now suspect...

HOW TO READ BAR CODES... (everyone must know)
ALWAYS READ THE LABELS ON THE FOODS YOU BUY--NO MATTER WHAT THE FRONT OF THE BOX OR PACKAGE SAYS, TURN IT OVER AND READ THE BACK CAREFULLY!
With all the food and pet products now coming from China, it is best to make sure you read label at the supermarket and especially when buying food products. Many products no longer show where they were made, only give where the distributor is located. The whole world is concerned about China-made "black-hearted goods".
Can you differentiate which one is made in Taiwan or China ? The world is also concerned about GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) foods; steroid fed animals (ex: 45 days old broiler chicken).
It is important to read the bar code to track its origin. How to read Bar Codes....interesting !
If the first 3 digits of the bar code are 690, 691 or 692, the product is MADE IN CHINA.
471 is Made in Taiwan .
If the first 3 digits of the bar code are 00-09 then it's made or sourced in USA.
This is our right to know, but the government and related departments never educate the public, therefore we have to RESCUE ourselves. Nowadays, Chinese businessmen know that consumers do not prefer products "MADE IN CHINA", so they don't show from which country it is made. However, you may now refer to the barcode -
Remember if the first 3 digits are:
890......MADE IN INDIA
690, 691, 692 ... then it is MADE IN CHINA
00 - 09 ... USA and CANADA
30 - 37 ... FRANCE
40 - 44 ... GERMANY
471 ........ Taiwan
45 or 49 ........JAPAN
489...........HONG KONG
50 .......... UK
57 .........DENMARK
64..........FINLAND
76.........SWITZERLAND and LIENCHTENSTIEN
471......... is Made in TAIWAN (see sample)
628.........SAUDI ARABIA
629.........UNITED ARAB EMIRATES
740..........745 - CENTRAL AMERICA
All 480 Codes are Made in the PHILIPPINES. Share it!

I read the labels from food stores, especially fish. now i spend more and get wild caught instead of farm raised. and we are eating more veggies and salads. and NO MEAT if the package says it has solution in it. . I love the dollar store. soap, clorox, soda, many brand name items are cheaper than food store.
