I'm deflowering this section of the forum. Thinkin Strait had his first foal born this past April and the mare owner was thrilled. Still waiting to see if APHA accepts him under regular registry per the white on his face. She'll be just as happy with him if he ends up being breeding stock, he's to be a gelding anyway and become a show horse. Here's "Wyatt" at 7 months old when I went to Mansfield PA to meet him. He's going to be a big boy. His sire, Thinkin Strait

And other than the three confirmed foals expected for 2014, we're done for the time being. Focusing on his training and working on buying a suitable equine property. For the record, I do not pasture breed, but I do allow the stallion to mingle with his mares after they come out of season. I believe it's healthier for both the mares and stallion to be allowed this social interaction. He is an absolute gentleman with his mares.

What a great looking colt and the chrome is awesome. I love the color and markings of your boys, always have. and when my arab stallion was breeding i always let him mingle with the mares . so i basically pasture bred. i would leave them for weeks in the field. than as winter set in i would bring in the stallion. i agree it is better for the mares and the stallion.

If I had my own band of mares, Beau would be fine pasture breeding. He's not persistent and doesn't hassle the mares, he asks first. I don't want to take any risks with outside mares though, especially not knowing their behaviors. There's always that chance of an accident and I like to know when they're being covered for accurate stallion reports. The black and white mare also belongs to the same owner of this year's colt and the bay tobiano and buckskin also have the same owner. I want to know where his babies are at all times because I'll buy one if ever the opportunity presents itself. I want to know where his foals are and that they're in good hands. Is that a bit over the top?

Love the pics, thank you for sharing them! I don't think you're over the top, I think you're being a good, responsible breeder. Just out of curiosity, I'm not being accusing or anything, the picture with him and the buckskin mare, it looks like they have nothing to keep them from getting on the road. Is there a fence that can't be seen just beyong where the grass ends?

In that picture, the horses are just positioned in a way you can't see the posts, but you can see the pink tape flagging on the wire. I don't let my horses play in the road, I promise!

Ah, I see. Please don't think I was being a jerk, I really wasn't. But I knew there had to be something there and I couldn't figure it out and it was driving me nuts! Obviously I need a hobby.

No worries, the scary thing is some people do just let their critters go with no regard... and others turn them out so they don't have to take care of them. In the 3 years I lived at that place, despite the countless deer related fence repairs, I have never dealt with a loose horse.
