Quite simply your favorite onion rings batter. I finally got a slicer that gives me beautiful rings of onion. Now I can start making my own onion rings. I am so tired of buying rings to find many that are nothing but skin covered in batter. I want actual onion in my onion rings! The only way I can be certain to get them is to make my own!

I've never made them before but was wondering if you could share what slicer you have.

I've never made them before but was wondering if you could share what slicer you have. It's called a Pro Smart. I was in the store (Dillons or Walmart, don't remember which) and there was an announcement about a free giveaway. A free peeler for watching a demo. I was really impressed and bought one! There is a web site on the box http://www.twintowerstrading.com I have been very happy with it, slicing onions without a single tear. Thick slices, thin slices, chopped, french fries, julienne, coleslaw, etc. When I googled recipes there was even one for Long John Silvers batter, not as different as I expected.

Slice the onion about 1/8 of in inch thick and soak in buttermilk . or sour cream than put the rings in flour to coat well. than deep fry in oil until golden. i never make them anymore but i did when i needed to use up sacks of onions
makes a great side dish or snack.
