Hunter courses are pretty easy and logical in set up. It's when you get into equitation that they start mixing things up and then jumpers are just all over the place!

Great pictures! Glad you had fun. I would have a terrible time memorizing those courses!

Thanks everyone!!! It was really exciting too because we actually warmed up over this course the night before and my coach had me warming up over one of the verticals at 2'9. I'm hoping we will start moving up a bit at home, but I'm in no rush! I still have to stop jumping up her neck and anticipating the jumps lol. Ya as for remembering courses... thankfully I remembered them all LOL I would tell Zoe what jump we where going to as we where doing the course LOL. Imagine, As I'm cantering around I would say "ok Zoe now where going to the green one" LOL Thankfully I was alone!!! LOL I did go off course though during warm up, so I'll be honest it did stress me out but it worked out in the end. I have a lot of deciding to do now because I was offered to show Zoe on the trillium circuit. Trillium has always been a dream to me and it's being waved in my face. Not only that but I have an amazingly talented horse I could use for it too! Ah I'm so torn, I hope I can fit it in my budget and take those weekends off work. thanks everyone for your kind words, it means a lot to me <3

Thank you to your friend for such great pictures! No complains of overload from me, I love it Looked like good weather for all that exercise too, cool, overcast with a bit of a breeze but not too much... at least that's what it looked like... anyway, you two did great. Tell Zoe I have a big "bubble" around me too. Congratulations! You two did GREAT!

Here's a bit of an update for you all! So far this summer has been absolutely crazy-busy. I meant to share this link sooner but this is a video of my first trillium show. I have an other trillium show this weekend so I'll fill you in on how that one goes! We have had some up's and downs so far this season. My first trillium went really well we ended up getting 3ed place for the hunter course that's in the video. Our last show we didn't do as well, out of 5 classes I came home with a 3ed place in our equitation flats class (they judge the rider in that class). It was our last class of the day and I didn't want to leave without a single ribbon LOL so we worked our buts off and it paid off! Didn't help the last two shows it's been raining.

Looking good! Just remember, it's not always about the ribbons. If your ride is better and better each time, than that is what makes a winner (i know, I know, the ribbons are nice too!).

Thanks! The show last weekend went really well!! The classes had 16 riders, I didn't get anything for my first hunter course (we ended up adding a stride in a line-that through it for it but that's ok!), our second course we got 5th which I felt was amazing!! We finally got all our strides and our leads right lol! In the hunter flats we didnt get anything either, which didn't surprise me because Zoe and I never place in hunter classes... Apparently Trillium judges dislike QH's; oh well lol. Then we had our Medal class (it's an equitation course and a flat class combined) The judge actually asked a lot from us in the flat class (sitting trot, extend, simple change, walk to canter ect.) It was definitely a big test that's for sure. The course too had a lot of rollbacks in it. anyways, I ended up getting 3ed! I was amazed! I still can't believe it more then half way through show season and I finally figure things out lol

Sounds like most of the fun is improving your riding and the horse's thinking, supposedly the more you do that the more competitive you are but what's a ribbon after you get it? Not much but the learning and paying attention, wow that's what is so cool! I love reading about your riding, you explain it in such a way I don't have to know how to do it to appreciate what is going on. Thanks!

Thanks everyone I was very proud of my last show! We ended up getting champ for the 2"6 devision getting placed 1st, 2ed, and 3ed for my courses and then 4th in my hunter and equitation flat classes. The EQ flat class the judge didn't take it easy on us either. He made us do a sitting trot it felt like an hour and then out of no where a turn on the forehand which I have not practiced much at all... like ever. Turned out really good though considering!! I am super proud because I feel as if I have improved so much since the winter. I've been taking lessons consecutively for the last two years almost and it's definitely paying off. I feel 1000x more confident then I ever have and I feel as my cues are much more natural/instinctual then they ever have been. And you ladies are definitely right. It's not about the ribbons, for me its about doing everything to the best of my ability and I've noticed that they kinda go hand in hand. The biggest challenge for me these days is just making sure I am on my proper leads and getting the proper strides between jumps. Zoe is a bit poky and so am I so we often add a stride between jumps. Luckily though we are definitely improving on that front!! Sadly I've had to drop my last two trillium shows Work will not give me the time off to go to championships. I am pretty upset but my wallet is happy if that makes sense! We will be finishing out local circuit though and qualify for year end. Then it's Sheldon's time to shine/prep for next year! It will be a busy winter for sure.

Oh Shelly that is just so GREAT! I can just feel your happiness through the typing, isn't that fun?! You have such amazing communication and therefore relationship with your horse and I love hearing about it. I can only imagine that 2 years of consistent lessons is such a blessing and makes all the difference. How wonderful! If you ever find the time would you mind giving us Zoe's take on all of this, I love that kind of thing... if you find the time, you are a busy busy bee mini-graphics-smileys-801959

Oh Zoe is absolutely amazing. She is just so calm and absolutely nothing fazes her. She will stand quietly while waiting for classes, she can be a little sticky when it's time to go again but really.. Show days are long ones. She is just such an honest mare. Doesn't matter how badly I mess up she will pitch in to make our strides or leave long. She's never done anything nasty like refuse which is a HUGE confidence boost for me. I feel as if we are well paired. I would get really gittery at the beginning of the season and she's really helped me calm my nerves through out the season. It's actually kinda funny, her old owner is at a lot of our shows and he's been telling my coach how much he regrets taking her out of his school program. LOL Mind you the girl who showed her last year I guess didn't have as good of a season and fell off her often because of refusals which I find odd but oh well! I'm just happy I have this year on her. She's thought me so much and she's giving me so much more experience I feel ready to start sheldon up and hopefully this time next year my show posts will be of him! Anyways I could go on and on I found a couple pictures a local photographer took of us at our last two shows

I love to hear how happy and excited you are with Zoe. Isn't it nice to be paired with a horse that is just the right fit for you? And those pictures are great! You look fantastic on her.

Even more fun! Oh my you've got to be feeling sky high to think that Zoe wasn't nearly the horse she is with that other girl and probably other riders as well as she is with you. I'm positive, beyond a doubt Zoe respects, trusts and loves you or she wouldn't be as good as she is. She had that all along but those other folks must have treated her poorly, like I see so many lesson horses get treated, like things, like tools and it's all about the spoiled nasty girl who thinks she's all that because her folks have money to pay for her lessons.... okay, sorry I did go off on that but after 30 days boarding Peachie at that show barn I'm not very impressed with those riders at all and feel sorry for the horses too.
Those pictures are awesome. You and Zoe look like one beast, perfectly centered and balanced. She has such a calm and studious expression, like she's doing every day things, no sweat. What a wonderful horse!
