We got this little dog in december. a little thin but the people that had her were living in a hotel and had her on craigs list. a little scardey and shy but we bonded real quick. smart little thing and she zooms around the yard with life and love of freedom. I called my bet to inquire about spaying her. HOLY MOLLEY,, they want 205, just for the procedure and the cost of a cone and antibiotics. they also want to see her before the surgery as pre op. 49.00 for office visit. 23, for rabies that she needs and 77.00 for blood work up. no wonder people can not afford to spay a rescue . that is highway robbery. So i called the cat rescue i used to get a cat for the barn two years ago and they do dogs. yup spay and neuter. and you would not believe the price $85.00.. that is what i said oh and that includes shots. Bella goes in on April 29. and i googled the vets name and she is from islip long island and from the city and has a place in california. glad i made the call.

What a sweet looking girl. Thank you for giving her such a great home. So glad you found someone to do the spay for less.

Wow, that vet is a "suburban" vet, definitely above my pay grade, sheesh! There are vets like that in Bemidji too. I went to one with Schoenie to get an x-ray as our vet didn't have the equipment. We sat in the waiting room listening to three ladies chatter away about how great their vet was, etc., etc. I mentioned about our vet John and how I thought he was wonderful too, they just stared at me with contempt. Why? Why wouldn't they think, "OH isn't that great? More good vets is better!" So I gotta figure it's an ego thing. Pathetic. You know what that means, they're using their pets as trophies, as extensions of something that really truly doesn't exist! Love shrivels into dried turd beans in that environment. But dogs don't judge, they simply love.

My regular vets are the best. Have helped me thru many trying times. BUT.I can not see such high price for a 20 minute procedure. I know what shoots cost, seems every vet works on commission so the more they charge each one is padding their pocket.

Im sure she will be fine, spaying is much more expensive than neutering, my vet did the stray cat I found for the same price as the spay neuter clinic, if youd pushed them yours might have done the same!
She looks very quiet and sweet:)

Thinking of you and Bella this morning. My uncle's Dane is getting neutered this morning too as well as surgery to fix his eyelids that were inverted.

Hope all goes well! The vet I use is a general vet (does small and large animal) and their prices are very reasonable compared to the small animal clinic. The small animal clinic is very posh - interior done by a professional designer - state of the art this and this etc. And you PAY for these services.
Our vet is in a small building, paneled waiting room on cafeteria chairs - exam tables from the 60's - but they do this to keep costs down - the vet's at the clinic are above Par and they know they cater to farmers and small acreage owners with large and small animals.
I would rather pay for good service than good surroundings.

Well bella is home and resting. I was a wreck. walking her up the creaky awful steps to the vet and the surgery room reminded me of stories of back room abortions of years ago. and to see this so called vet just sitting in a chair garbling his words. i almost backed out. ( i looked around and the room was tiled and clean ) When they called my cell to tell me to pick her up an hour later i was scared that they were going to tell me she died. i was shopping but not in a relaxed mind. picked her up and the vet scolded me and said Bella vomited and i "fed her". i told him "i did not" and he shook his head. and i told him "not to argue with me". nothing like feeling i was dog poop under his dirty feet. so she is resting on my bed and she will be ok by tomorrow. How is she doing now? Vets can be very expensive. The veterinary board in Alberta is trying to bring about rules that we'll have to get written approval or something like that just to get a farrier out or a chiro. Our miracle man that adjusts our horses has no credentials so we'd lose him and farriers would have to have gone to farrier school. They've already got it so that we have to have a special number just to pick up wormer. So things will just get worse cost wise and some horses will get neglected.
