I was on several forums before (croatian forums about horses) and one time I googled "Conversano Canissa" (the name of my stallion) just out of curiosity. It turned out that all the pictures that I posted on that forums and titled them Conversano Canissa were showing on google search, I even discovered that many people have been using my pictures as you could easily just click "save as" and there you go. I wonder if that happens here also. Does the threads and pictures show on google, yahoo or other similar search engines?!

I think all that is put on the internet is up for grabs unless it is said "not for use by others for personal gain" even that it is difficult to curb the fact that all is out there and up for grabs. one day i googled this forum and other forums that i am on and some of the threads that i posted on were right there in front of me. so the best thing to do it be aware of what you are saying and if in doubt do not say it. as for photos. your horses and horses in general are stunning so be proud of the fact that they want to use it. you can sign a name on the photo before posting. so it can not be changed or altered. like putting NIKI on it across the bottom for all to see. ..

I still wonder does the images show on the searches. Because I think forums who allowes only members to read certain threads do not show. Maybe moderator will know more.

To my knowledge any image you post anyplace on the internet is retrievable by another. If you know how to do it you can go anyplace.... I have found quite innocently some things would make straight hair curly about a couple.... If you want to safeguard your photos do as many are now doing... you take a copy of your photo and write something across it that then distorts it some so others can not claim to own it.
I know anything, anything you write or post to Facebook becomes the property of Facebook.... Don't care if you do that silly "I own my blah, blah, blah..." When you joined, in very tiny print, you agreed that anything you posted could and would be kept as part of the archives of that site...that is also a real easy way to find out someones past thoughts and photos of what and who they are....employers love social media and use it to check on perspective new employees!! So do the police when investigating certain actions by someone.... Not sure but I believe that Facebook private messages are the same way...
Today, if you want it to remain "YOURS" beware of where you put it and how easy it is for others to make claims on it.
Want to see..... goggle yourself by your given name, then your alias identity here and on other sites....up comes near everything written...
Beware is all I can say...BEWARE and BE INFORMED!!

If on a forum that has secret places to post photos and words it is still copyable by others that see it. i checked with the host site of this forum and that is what they told me. do as hl4l says and write your name across the bottom and just be aware of what you put out there on the net.

Yes, I agree, once it's on the net, it is out of your control. That is why I rarely post my family's pictures anywhere. My animals or "things" I don't worry about, but people's pictures I do.
I just did a search for "Lipizzan Horse Adventures", and clicked on images. I didn't look through all the photos but there were definitely some of your pictures you posted here that came up in the search.
I know there are programs where you can upload a photo and it will show you where else the exact same photo has been used. That is how many companies go after people using their images.
Watermarks help to identify who the photo belongs to, but the only thing you can do to keep a photo private is to not post it on the internet.

Yes, once you post something on the internet it lives there forever.
This is a very interesting time for this topic as there have recently been some interesting precedents set (mostly in Europe) for the right to be forgotten on the internet. This means that a court agreed that if you request to have personal searchable information made 'unsearchable' you may do so and search engine companies are required to comply. **Please note this is only very recent and is not worldwide** I believe the company in question in that particular court case was google.
I try to make a point of being very careful what I post online because once that information is out there you cannot take it back. Recently my BM googled my name, and the name of my horses and it brought her to this forum. I have nothing to hide, so it wasn't an issue (other than the fact the action in itself was a little stalkerish). With the correct keywords and persistence tons of personal information can be found. It is frightening to think about.
In Canada there was recently legislation passed that allows greater enforcement of copyright laws for ones intellectual property, as well as personal media. This law is very new and I don't think anyone has done anything with it yet, but it does open the door for some interesting legal implication for those who download and use copy written material illegally. I once stumbled across a website that had pictures of Apollo on it from a friends facebook page. They were claiming Apollo was "Nitro" and it turned out to be some very strange internet role playing thing where people create websites using other people's photos and pretend that it is their real life.
The internet is a strange and wonderful place, but mostly strange.

I have nothing to hide either, but it is not nice to see your horses being called different names and made up stories about them. I will have to do as told, to put my name on every picture. it would be nice to erase some things I wrote in the past though. But we learn from out mistakes. After all we are just humans.

I wasn't meaning to come across as saying that you (or anyone else here) has anything to hide. I meant that statement to be a little more explanatory to my personal situation with the BM googling me. I probably could have worded it better.
I agree with you though, it is distressing and annoying to have other people use your pictures for their own purposes, whatever they may be.
Adding a watermark, or your name to your photos is a great place to start.

Lip...might I suggest you not use your entire real name on any documents/photos you post unless you don't mind it being known. Your initials or property of ******. Permission not given for copying!
Something to that effect on those lovely photos you have so generously shared with us.. That should help to protect them... I don't know how to do a watermark or something to that effect either, but that would surely work as it distorts and labels the photos ownership.
I know on many photos I have of me jumping at shows there is a signature placed someplace so the photographer is identified and if you not buy the print it clearly is marked "PROOF" at a angle across the entire photo.... Just a few ideas to protect you and your gorgeous horses...
