So I have been casually looking into getting myself another young prospect, something geared a little more toward eventing or endurance. I am not selling Benny, but I want to give him another year off / light work as he is still growing and his knees haven't closed yet. He is really starting to grow and come into himself and I have no desire to push him before he is physically ready.
I have also had some positive changes with my job that have resulted in a little more time and more money. I am not in any sort of rush to buy, but I came across this horse the other day, and can't get him out of my head.

You would definitely want to go out and try him out and all that fun stuff. Would you consider looking for a lease until benny is ready? Not that I'm discouraging you from getting a second horse at all but I personally know how difficult it is to split your time and finances between two loves. Before I got pregnant I was free leasing Levi, It worked out really great. Sheldon was still really young and only able to do ground work and Levi was 5 years old so he had the physical capabilities to do just about anything. It was great. Did nice long road/trail rides, showed, trailered in for lessons. I eventually came to a co-ownership agreement with his owner and we discussed what I was financially responsible for while he was in my care and vice-versa. I'm really happy I took this route because when I found out I was pregnant the first thing that had to go was the second horse  It broke my heart but honestly it had to be done. So I technically still co-own Levi, we told each other that he would always have a home between the two of us. To this day she can't sell him without running it by me first, which gives me some peace of mind. I know benny will be your forever horse and I know you have big plans for him in the long run. Getting a new mount in the mean time is a good idea just not sure if ownership in the long run the best option. anyways jmo  He does look lovely though! |

Excellent points. I have considered leasing something, and did spend some time looking into it, but there doesn't really look like there is anything suitable for me on the market right now. There are lots of leases available, but they either have a hefty lease fee attached to them, or work out to be a 'put free training on my horse' situation. If I find the perfect lease situation before I find the perfect horse then that is just fine too :)

Is this a horse you are looking to keep or put some miles on and turn over?
He is probably just now turning 5...
He is cute... just a plain bay from the looks of him.
You are going to get some confirmation still shots though aren't you?
He has some very nice blood in him, recognize some lineage names associated with hunters and I think jumpers too..
I would love to see what he looks like stripped of his tack and standing on a hard surface...
The pictures to me do him no justice... if he can do as she wrote...
Does make me wonder though why they pulled him off the track when with 2 starts, he won one and placed with the other...
What did they see that had them stop his racing career???
If you figure out his pedigree "points" he has the speed, he according to them lacks in stamina if I did it right...
That would absolutely concern me if you are looking toward endurance or 3-Day Eventing.
I know those numbers can be just that...but it is something to consider.
So...what did they see that ended his career???

I am looking for something for at least the next year to two years, at which point I am planning g on re-evaluating and either selling at that point or continuing on with two horses.
His owner is away until Monday, so hopefully I will have some better pictures and videos then.
According to Equibase he has had 15 starts, looks to me like he has just gotten less competitive, but I will be sure to confirm that with her.

I didn't even see those starts...
What I saw were his scores on the top of his pedigree that made me ?
Can you tell what kind of distances he was being run at?
Dirt or grass?
All of those items could have a large impact on you and what you wish for a future job or career...

I like his breeding, bold ruler on he top and native dancer on the bottom. way back in his lineage.
as long as he is sound that he should be a great horse no matter what you decide to do with him.

He looks very nice, I have to get use to those "soft/long" fetlocks. Lipizzaners have very dry/short fetlocks, one of the reasons why they are not show jumping horses. I would go and try him out, see how is he thinking and maybe who knows.

No. I am scaling back looking for the next month or two. I am working on what is kind of a 'last big hurrah' in my old position, and working in my new one at the same time while they try to find someone to fill where I was.
More interviews this week, so hopefully it won't be for too much longer. My paychecks look great, my free time ... not so much. I was promised that it will be resolved by June 15 at the latest.

So now that I am A) Healed up B) Feeling fairly confident again and C) Things have finally settled at work I am back causally looking for a prospect. Key word casually. I want to wait for the perfect match for me.
I came across a Hanoverian gelding the other day. Terrible pictures (I will post later, but I really don't think they do him justice), but his video's look pretty good.
I am mulling over going to see him. He is 7 and from what I have gathered has largely fallen through the cracks. He was started but will more or less need a restart at this point. I don't know if I want something essentially unstarted, but the training he did have looks like it was solid. The price is right though.
I will post a link to his ad later tonight.

I got some better photos and some short videos that looked good, and talked at length about why they feel he is complicated. I will reserve judgment, but I think he just needs some consistency and has just fallen through the cracks.
He has two half brothers (same Dam) in the USA, one who is doing FEI dressage and another who just moved up to PSG this year.
I am trying to set up a time to see him, just waiting to hear back.

Well he looks interesting. I think it is definitely worth the visit out to try him out and see what you think. What they think is complicated may be easy fixes to you (or vice versa).

He looks good. I agree, seems like he has fallen through the cracks. The good thing is, if he was a resell project in a few years, the breed and some good solid training could fetch a decent price tag.

So I haven't heard anything back from the seller about me coming to see him. I know they read my message several days ago. I left them my cell # as well.
Might have missed out on this guy I'm thinking and they just don't want to tell me he is sold.
Oh well. I'll wait a few more days, but I'm not broken up about it. Will update if they ever do get back to me.

Sounds like a vetting may be happening and you won't hear from them unless he "fails" and you are next on the list for a look-see.
Amazing people want to sell but can't be bothered returning contact calls.....
He is interesting looking and sounding.
I see in multiple photos is his hind leg stance hock down looks strange.....could be the way he is standing in that footing, but he has that same angled under him stance multiple times.
As you said....bad photos for sure.
Me, I would of removed those darn boots which are a eye-sore and detract from him terribly, imo. Put some more spit & polish on him too......
He with that build has some real potential to go many directions as you see yourself.
Hope he works out if "meant-to-be" for you or keep searching for that new project...
When it is right it will jump out and bite you to notice it!!

Not sure it is because of his pastern coloring but his front feet don't look right to me either....

Hmm, I don't like the look of those back hooves - the right looks like it's really short (almost club like?) and the left looks like it is long (but maybe the coloring of the hoof?).
Definitely take a good long look at those hooves and legs.
