... so pocket will get rest and aspirin and in the future have your farrier not bring the leg sideways have him bring it behind her and keep the leg lower than her hock. and even when picking out her hooves try just bringing the leg up easy. I don't think my farrier did bring the leg up sideways, he just tried to bring it up behind her, but she immediately started trying to pull it away. I am going to suggest to him that he try not to raise that leg higher than her hock, though.

Can you give her bute right before the farrier comes. I gave my kids a dose of Tylenol right before we had to get their immunizations. I am not sure if it really helped or not, but it made me feel better.
I hope Pocket gets to feeling better really soon. Pocket.

Great minds think alike, Diamond. I was thinking just the other day that I will try giving Pocket some bute the morning the farrier is coming next time and see if that helps. Fingers crossed!
As for right now, she seems to be doing great! I've taken her off the bute already. She's been running, bucking and playing in the paddock and just acting like she feels great! I hope she doesn't overdo it, but it's not like I can control what she does when she's out there, so I'm just happy to see that she seems happy and looks like she feels better.
Oh, and I'm so excited to share this news... my shy, timid little Pocket pony is really coming around now! Just yesterday when she saw me heading out to the barn she got all excited and came running to the gate to greet me! That's the first time she's ever done this! This morning, after I turned the girls out, I went out into the paddock with them to spend a little time loving on each of them, and Pocket followed me everywhere I went, looking for more pets! As I was heading to the gate to leave she followed me all the way to the gate, and then stuck her nose through the gate after me still looking for move love. Again, this is a first! I'm so happy to see this side of her coming out.

She is getting a personality. She is also enjoying the love she receives and being more than what she was to her previous owner. And learning it is OK to be sweet and friendly...
She has found a home and a human for her own...and showing her liking of the situation.
I think I just heard a huge sigh from her and from you Terry!!
mini-graphics-valentine-940295..do I detect someone falling in love with "Pocket" hope so...she sure is special!!

Peaches, Penny and our dog Coda all went through the same transition, learning that they're safe, loved and then their personalities flourished. Penny took many years to come around.
So happy for Pocket and her family :-)

I wanted to give you guys an update on Pocket's stifle situation. She's been running, bucking, and playing just fine - no sign of a limp or stiffness whatsoever. Today was the big test, though - the farrier came today. I was nervous about how she was going to do, but I was worried for nothing. In fact I couldn't be more proud of my little Pocket Pony right now if I tried! The farrier just left. We saved Pocket for last since she gave us so much trouble with that right hind leg last time. Before my farrier got started with Pocket I reminded him of her possibly sore right stifle and asked him if he could try to just keep that hoof as low as possible and he said sure, no problem. I also told him that, as a preventative, I had given Pocket a small dose of Bute this morning. He said it may or may not have worn off by now, but it was good thinking anyway. Well, she did great! He saved her right hind leg for last and she stood calm, quiet and still all the way through it! We both gave her lots of pets and praise when he was done. Hopefully this means her stifle is feeling better now, but he and I also agreed that she is just a calmer, happier, better behaved pony all the way around now. Yay!!

What a great update! I'm so glad to hear Pocket is feeling better. Have "her girls" been around much to ride lately or has the weather just been too bad?

What a great update, and all the care and love is paying off.. and of course a farrier that listens and cares also.

What a great update! I'm so glad to hear Pocket is feeling better. Have "her girls" been around much to ride lately or has the weather just been too bad? "Her girls" are here every other weekend, but it's been too cold or too muddy or both most times they've been here. This past weekend it was pretty nice out, but still too muddy, so we just let the girls spend some time with Pocket inside the barn. No riding yet, but hopefully we can start letting them do some of that soon. Here are some pictures of Pocket with "her girls."
We let Megan practice leading Pocket around inside the barn.

She was a wonderful find! She has such a soft kind eye and looks to be so patient with the girls.

Thank you! She truly has been a wonderful find. She started out as a very scared little pony, but she has made great progress over the last 5 months that we've owned her, and she is incredibly quiet and patient with "her girls." My farrier commented that she was a wild little indian when she first arrived, but he was impressed by how much she has calmed down and her eye has softened. It's nice to hear that I'm not the only one seeing the progress she is making.
