Well we have a good morning. Not a lot of wind. So Tony went down and torched off the first pile of scrub brush from the field excavation. Only 2 more to go. The next one is small. The last one is the biggest and consist of whole trees..

Wow! It is going to look so different when the fields green up- all of that open space is wonderful!

That is the only way to get rid of the waste. we did exactly the same thing with many trees except hubby put tires in the fire to keep it going and it looked like hiroshima mushroom over the town. thankfully we contacted fire control before hand so they did not come to put the fire out.

There isn't really a fire Dept. to notify here. Everyone burns here. They burn their fields off every year. It's a wonder there isn't wild fires here.. Hell if the house caught on fire it would burn down before the fire dept. even got here...

Were you able to get the pile burned down before the winds kicked up? We've got a big brush pile that we need to burn, but it seems like the wind never stops blowing here, so it's hard to get it done. One year when hubby tried to burn some brush the wind caught it, it spread quickly, it jumped the creek, and it ended up burning the entire lot next to us! Fortunately no one had built a house there yet, but there are houses all around us now, so I'm a little gun shy about burning our brush pile.

All of it didn't burn down. Some of it has stumps with dirt on them. I was pretty well burnt down when the winds picked up here. There is nothing around it so we were good with that. When the winds did pick up I kept an eye on it. But then we got rain then . It's bitterly cold this morning. But I know what you mean. It can be so still then the winds will kick in. So even though it's in the middle of a bare field I worry.

Just love orange flame's, it is scary how something as beautiful as fire, can also cause so much sorrow! we burn at night because we have a fancy subdivision near us, and hundred's of acre's of state owned land too. between the two of them we would have the cop's, or the DNR here in 5 minuet's flat! also, the best way to get rid of hay twine, and feed bag's!

I know I love a good camp fire. I get mesmerized watching the coals and the wood burning. I just don't like the smoke blowing in my face and damn it seems to follow me around...

Did you get to roast marshmallows? When ever I smell smoke have the most, got to have it, craving for marshmallows. I like them really dark brown. Not burnt and black, but crispy on the outside, and gooey all the way to the middle. With or without chocolate and graham crackers, they are a fire side, must have!!!

We get a chipper for our brush piles but the bigger pieces we haul for friends and family who burn wood. Fires are too dangerous where we are so if its small in a pit, yes, but big like that no. OF course there are folks who do it but they like you have big open fields.
There was a fellow who was looking to buy a farm place and he couldn't see the barn for the weeds. So he thought he'd burn off the weeds. Yup, you can see this coming can't you, he burned down the barn! Can you imagine?!

We don't burn if the wind is blowing. I'm afraid it will get away from me. But this pile is in the middle of the open field and there wasn't anything that would catch for it to travel.. Tony was a fireman for years so he has the control over burning. I do little piles of leaves and small stuff in the front yard. But never anything big... We have another smaller pile to torch off but only when the time is right. The biggest one that we have is whole trees and CJ wants to get some fire wood out of it before we burn it. But we will probably start with a smaller pile and add to it as it burns. If we get some that would be great for burning it, if we get it lit off. We will have to throw some diesel on it then..
