I adopted a cat to keep my barn cat company, a cute 9 month old spayed female . the adoption center said she like to climb and that is why i got her knowing she would climb the barn and just love being my cat . well she ran away. no place to go. no one around to feed her or even check to see if she might be in their yard. the adoption center really did not tell me she was feral. just a cute lovable kitten that was rescued from a hoarding situation. GONE ., well i guess i will just have to find another playmate for tom. .

That's too bad. I wonder if you could somehow contain the next one you get for a few days/weeks until it realizes that this is home? Maybe the other cat will come back when it is hungry? Sorry.

Aw! poor kitty. Any sign of it's return? You said it likes to climb. Maybe it's in a tree.

We searched every where and looked everywhere and we did contain her for a week inside the two bedroom apartment with food and litter and also put tom tom in there every day to get to know her. she never came back. now that the apartment is winterized i will wait until spring and get another unless one just falls into my lap.

I feel your pain having recently lost 2 of mine and now I just have one lonely boy, mine had been with me years though, just heard tonight from client that coyotes are bad this year, I think I'll wait till spring to get another kitten, just hope Burke stays, he's 7 and my oldest so I'm hoping he's a home boy now:)
I hate when you don't know what happened to them though, I'd rather find them dead somewhere than just not know:(

It seems i am feeding a black fluffy feral / shy cat. saw him running between barns just yesterday, so i am putting out more food for him. no wonder i am going thru so much cat kibble. tom could not possibly by eating it all.

That'll prob work better for you, he's more likely to hang around having chosen you:) There was a nice little orange kitty hanging around with my missing cat Sid but I haven't seen it in weeks now either, I'm assuming whatever got Porscha and Sid got it too as it was younger, I still have my other cat locked up, I'll let him out this weekend, he's not used to being locked up, I have to do it sometime, I think I'll start bringing him in at night now as I don't want to lose him too:(

I agree with lorddaxter, some of the best cats I've had are the ferals that adopted us! Good luck with your black fluffy feral/shy kitty! I hope he/she sticks around.

Sorry to hear about your first kitty Do you think maybe a fox got her? When we had a litter of 3 kittens here, one just disappeared one day too. He was here when I left for work in the morning, and no sign of him when I got back home that evening I searched, and called, for him as well, but no sign, altho his siblings were still here. The only natural predator that feral cats have, in my area, are the fox (and maybe a stray dog). i felt he might have been attacked by a fox bc I noticed one wandering up by the house a few days after he disappeared.
