How can you tell Lip? He is so young...and so handsome!!
I thought all Lipizzaner were born dark and then turned grey/white as they aged...
I know now though from your pictures and you explaining some stay dark colored forever...
Is it something you do through a gene pool? Selecting traits to pass on...

This is his sister, she is black 5 year old lipizzaner mare now. You can see the similarity in color. photo hosting sites

I love him Lip...he is beyond gorgeous!!
I love his "dot" of white on the nose...and his large spot between his eyes. Striking!! Then no other markings...

I suppose your dad wouldn't approve but I would paint a red glitter heart in the middle of his forehead just for fun. What a precious little thing. And momma is such a beauty! Congratulations again.

Thank you. He is a cutie. Can't wait for mud to dry out, so that he can go run outside.

In the picture where he is standing beside his mom, he looks so proud. He looks like he knows he is special. What a beautiful boy.

I think Grom is a good name for him, especially if he will stay dark. Maybe your Dad is thinking he will stay dark also.
Why does your Dad get to name your colt? He was born from your mare, and already has his traditional name. I don't understand why you couldn't be allowed to choose his barn name.
If you had gotten the chance, to give him his barn name, what name would you have chosen?

Lipizzan can name the colt a name the colt knows and that's what matters most *wink*

He is not from my mare, my mare is this ones mother. He did not even ask me how would I want to name him, he just came in and said his name. Grom is ok, but not wanting to hear my opinion is not nice. I also feed, clean stalls and take care of our horses as much as he does.
