A very good friend of mine refuses to feed alfalfa for the exact same reason this article states. She believes that it harms the horses kidneys and makes them hot. She feeds straight grass hay - but now her mare has a "hay belly" and she is having a fit! She also does not feed grain because she thinks it makes her horse hot. She is a timid rider and stays away from anything that she THINKS will make her horse HOT. I have purchased salt blocks for her horses because she also thinks that grass hay is more natural for her horse and she does not need to supplement. She is a good friend but can be swayed to think whatever the "horse person" of her choice tells her at that moment. My horses get a grass alfalfa mix and grain twice and day and are not hot and do not have hay bellies. Wish more folks read these articles and actually believe them!

Great article! I have heard so many of these. I also know several people who think alfalfa is the devils feed for all the reasons in that article and more.
Will be sharing this around.
