shadow - you should definitly do some rides. They are lots of fun and very relaxed. Mister and I usually just walk the whole way and take in the scenery and enjoy ourselves. I used to ride with my friend but she likes to trot and canter a lot and I just feel like the ride is over too quickly doing that! So now I usually just ride by myself and love it.
HOWEVER....UGH, we didn't go this weekend. Saturday evening I had everything all ready to go. I fed Mister dinner at 5 like normal. I went back into the barn around 6 to get something I forgot and found Mister lying down in his stall. After I watched him for a minute and decided to call the vet. Glad I did because when he got there 20 mintues later, Mister was starting to full-fledge colic. So, we gave banamine and a sedative and tubed him.
After the vet left and the sedative wore off, Mister was still wanting to roll so we walked for probably two and half hours. I finally decided to call the vet again (he had left me some new banamine, I thought I might need to give more). Of course when he calls me back Mister started standing and not wanting to roll. Vet told me to call anytime in the night, we was at the clinic with another colic case.
Finally about 11:00 Mister started passing gas and nibbling at the grass. I stayed up with him most of the night and am happy to say he was back to normal Sunday.
So, my horse that I've had for 10 years that never gets sick or has accidents (well, besides the snake bite to his nose soon after I got him) has, in the past month or two, stepped on a nail and colicked. I'm hoping this is the end of it but don't these things normally come in sets of threes?
I am almost happy we didn't go to the ride Sunday though. The wind in the afternoon was something fierce and not really something I would have enjoyed driving in. So next ride is May 18th...
