It's early Saturday morning. I let Buster out to do his chores, and suddenly hear furious barking, followed by a quick yelp. Of course, I run to open the door, to see what had hurt my darling Buster. He ran clear into the living room before I figured out what had happened, and I could get him back out. (((SKUNK)))
There is no way I can find skunk odor remover at 7:00 on a Saturday morning, around here, and it is to cold and rainy, to make him stay out while I drive an hour to get something.
I got on the internet and found this: mix 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide with 1/4 cup of baking soda, and 2 teaspoons on dish soap. Apply to dog and leave on 5 minutes. Be sure to protect the eyes, and don't get any in the ears or mouth.
It works!!!
Buster smells great. Now if I can only get the odor out of the carpet where he tried to rub the smell off, before I got wind of what had happened, and could get him back outside.

Try soaking the area he rubbed in with vinegar. It may smell bad for a bit but will go away. It worked on cat pee...

I have the same recipe but mine calls for original DAWN dish soap, the blue one. I have made smaller solution amounts and guesstimated on amounts...still worked.
My Ashley has been skunked now, 2x....thankfully that solution worked in one application each time. Darn dog is terrified of baths, will kill herself and you fighting to get away. Weirdest part is she is a chocolate lab mix...and was a rescue adoption so who knows what happened to her..
Glad you found "the recipe", it costs only pennies to make........
Now a sweet smelling doggie for you........

It really does work, and it does only cost pennies. I had to run to town for the hydrogen peroxide. The recipe called for new bottles. It says it will loose it's strength if it is to old. I just wanted to pass along the information, so if anyone else has the same problem, they can try it.
