I contacted guy to come and give me an estimate to clear half of the back field. He was a very nice person. Seemed very honest. After I took him around the area I want done. He said that he could have it done in a day. So we came back to the house and chatted for awhile. He is originally from CA. HE told us a few things we didn't know about feeding the pigs when it comes time to get them ready for processing. He also grows hay, and has square bales. So around the 10th of Dec. He will be out to clear what I want done for now. It's the worst of the back field, so it will look much better and then we can get some grass going for pasture. We have a lot of rock here so any grass will help. He will push it all up in a pile and we will burn it. That will save us a lot of $ in hauling it out. Everyone here burns so we will just have to do it on a non windy day and after a good frost so that everything is moist and it doesn't spread. He even said he would come with his back hoe and push it and clear a fire break around it. Can't wait to see that area with just mature oaks on it. Horses will like it to.
This is what it looks like now. Where you see the tree line at the top of the hill in the 2nd pic isn't part of it just the thick cluster area. The area that is clear and it goes into it is the path we have around that side. The path in the first pic in the middle will be to the right of that over to the hill in the 2nd pic.

Ypu have to do what you have to do to get that field in pasture quality. looks like a great big project but with the right machines and human power it can be done.

I'm confused about what you're pushing over and burning. As I read your post it sounded like you were burning rock; but hey if everyone else does it why not you too? Are you pushing over that clump of oak?

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product! More grass is always helpful.

Are you pushing over that clump of oak? The area in the pics is mostly cedars and oak saplings that we can't do with our tractor. So to save me money. The guy is doing to push it all up in a big pile and we will burn it. Hell I wish I could burn rock!!! There are some mature oaks out there and they will stay. Also a Osage tree. What ever the hell that is. It has as the locals say apples in it. But looks like green brains. Suppose to take the apples and put them under your house to repel bugs. The taller trees you see is the neighbors property line. I'll try and get some better pics of what is going down.

Kills me to think of bulldozing trees but your climate grows them better than ours. An Osage orange is excellent wood for fence posts. Harder than nails and very resistant to rot. And yes the fruit is supposedly good for repelling insects. I put a couple in the crawl space of our house after a gigambus spider crawled on my shoulders I never went back so I don't know if they worked or not(rofl)

They say that they use the Osage to make bows for hunting. Tony put some under my house. But the damn spider had already had a feast on my arm. It's healed up now but I have five small indents and scar rings from it. Don't know if they work or not. My neighbors swear that they do.

No update on the excavation. Hasn't been done due to the weather. It has been cold and wet. So even if he did show up he would get stuck for sure..So just waiting for dryer days now.
Sent the guy a message and he is shooting for the end of the month. Hopefully it will be dry enough and no !!
