On a good note. There is a lady that is very interested in Libby. She lives in Aspen Colorado and has family here in Ozark about an hour from us. They are coming tomorrow morning to look at her. We have told her everything we know about her. Even her wanting to go back to the barn. But she was ok with that. So keep everything crossed that she buys her. She told us all about where she rides, her other horses, and her ranch. So sounds like Libby would have a great home. I'm hoping for Short that she buys her..

Crossing here too. I'll take the freedom to interpret the "not worried about barn sweetness" to be a sign that the woman understands animals and knows its fixable. Good Luck Libby!

Well the lady came and seemed to think that Libby would be good for her friend in CO. ;-|So now we are just waiting for a call from the lady in CO. So far sounds like Libby will be moving to CO. But then again I won't hold my breath on it. The other lady that is local is 72yrs old and rides a mule. I was jealous!!!
Tomorrow going to get things put in trailer for Sugar and will head out early Saturday morning for KY. Will have camera with me. I will have my note book and hot spot with me to post from...

My concern over the whole thing, is the shipper wants us to meet him in Mountain Grove. It's 13 miles away. Why can't he pick her up at the farm. Even if it's a tractor trailer he can get in our road and turn around at the split. The only place in town to meet is the Walmart parking lot. Which to me is asking for trouble. A lot of cars going through there all parking lot. And if it is a semi type rig. as I hear it will be. That means a ramp up into it. This horse locks up at the back of the stock trailer. I see an accident waiting to happen. I told Short you give him the paper work and hand him the lead rope and let him load her. His job. If the woman is paying for him to pick her up why? can't it be where is she boarded. Just doesn't make any sense to me. Plus now it will cost me to hook up and take the horse into town.

Can you speak with the hauler directly and explain that there is plenty of room (mention you have experience with big rigs)? I bet he is just concerned about getting in and out and has probably been told before that there was room when there wasn't. I think if you explain your husband is a rig driver and there is plenty of room, maybe he will come to you. Worth a shot anyway.
Otherwise, can you meet early morning at walmart when there aren't as many people around?

Tony has done all the talking. So I'm letting them deal with it. I have told them my opinion on it.

It sure has bad vibes. but like you said it is out of your hands. and the poor horse is going to be loaded. off loaded and up a ramp in a parking lot. what a way to start a trip. some drivers have no clue.
good luck

WOW Loading a horse in a Walmart parking lot sounds like BIG trouble to me.... Not even for the horse, more for the senseless people of walmart who may have zero horse sense.
hopefully the hauler can come to your place, the walmart situation just isn't right.

Well I asked Tony if he has talked to the shipper and he said no. Just the woman buying her. I told him that they should tell her that there is really no where in town to load a horse. That there is no reason that the shipper can't come to the farm. We have had tractor trailers come down our road and there is a place that he can turn it around. Bedsides if I'm paying a shipper to pick up a horse I would want it picked up at my farm not a totally strange place. The horse is going to be up set to start with leaving the herd. Why make it worst?

Well just got back from taking Libby to vet for her Health Cert. All is good. Tony needs to talk to the lady buying her and tell her there is no good place to load a horse in town. I told him that too! There is no reason the shipper can't pick her up here. Just causes me to have to hook up the trailer and take her to town to meet him.

Ming... If Libby was at a boarding barn the shipper would be expected to go to that location to pick up his ship... It should be no different... Your home is her boarding barn! Personally, sound like the shipper is lazy.
Not like you can't fit a large rig at your location....you said you have had tractor trailers there before... A unsafe environment to load Libby from... Hard to believe a "professional" shipping company is demanding to load a unknown animal, unknown if they load quietly or is a problem on pavement... 757724 So what happens if Libby is injured during the loading??? Who is held responsible, pays a potential vet bill and could make the sale null & void and leave you with a hurt horse... Have your SIL & daughter thought this through clearly and completely.... 757724
Me, think not happening in that parking lot, period! wag finger......

Exactly. I told her tonight to call the lady and tell her that there isn't a safe place to unload her and reload her onto a rig that has a ramp to go up. Libby is an easy goer. But sometimes she locks up when loading. I also told her that I should charge the lady a hauling see to meet the shipper. I have always had a shipper pick up where the horse is boarded. Hopefully she will listen and call the lady and explain it. Plus if it was my horse the shipper would pick it up here or I would find another who will do the job their hired for...Also told her what if something happens and Libby gets hurt.
