Hopefuly once I am better set up and have time I will get to have some duck friends, I'm wondering though what types to get, I want ducks that will get along and that are friendly, any advice?

i used to have some ducks. Well, actually they were my neighbors but they came to visit my house quite often. They were lots of fun...until...turns out they were both males and that pent up testosterone would make them attack anything that moved, including my feet. Unfortunately they got run over in between our houses about a year ago. Here's a great site to get info about the different duck breeds": www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/ducklings.html

Have not thought much about ducks, but a friend of mine has some pekin ducks and a few mallards in the mix. she has a coop for them and a kiddie pool for them to swim in. my thought would be wild hunters, that would love getting them. like coyote and weasels.

Thanks for the link:) Yes horselady, it's the coyotes I worry about, hadn't though about weasels, my cat Burke is partial to ducks too and slaughtered an entire family except 1 duckling I saved and took to the wildlife sanctuary! I'll have to ensure I have a nice safe set up for them, not quite sure where we will live yet when we retire, travelled BC a bit, pretty nice and less etc there mostly, but plan next year to look at annapolis valley as it has a micro climate which looks good plus house prices are super cheap for what you get:) I swear I never thought I'd look forward to retiring but in reality I can't wait, I just hope I'm fit enough to enjoy it

My husband already knows that when we get our next acreage I want ducks. Not just any ducks. Crested ducks! The ones with pom-poms on their heads!!! So there will have to be a little pond for my pom-pom ducks.
