Lint and I will be headed to Kentucky on the 29th to pick up my new walking horse. Yes I decided JR isn't going to be able to do the trail riding like I want. I think his stifle may have been bothering him even though he goes sound. But if he keeps acting up on me I can't handle the jigging and crow hopping. So I found this mare. She isn't my color of horse. But there is something about her and I want her. I'm that way. Have bought most of my horses that way and well you have seen what I end up with. So I spent a few hours talking to the owner via FB and he said he would hold her for me. She is pure TWH but no papers. Has been used for pleasure and show. She is 15.2 and has a blaze. Her name is Sugar. He told me she never gets mareish and acts more like a gelding. No vices. He showed me a video of her and she has the smoothest looking running walk. She looked very calm and light in the face. I tried to share the video but couldn't. So here are a few pics I got off his ad. Not the best pics. Click on them to see bigger

Ok she might not be your color, but she is certainly mine, so when you get tired of her, just bring her to me. She is pretty. Congrats.

Actually one of my best horses was a sorrel with a blaze. I like paints the best!! But ya know pretty is as pretty does... The best thing was her price...Even hauling to Ky and back is cheaper than most nice walkers I have seen on line. He also has a black one and told me he would give me a great deal on both of them...

Wow! She is beautiful. And I love the picture of him riding her. She looks very soft in the mouth and face, not like a lot of gaited horses I've seen where you have to be all up in their mouths. I can't wait to see her home with you! Are you thinking of getting the black one too?
So I guess this means JR is on the market now too? Maybe you can give someone a great package deal with him and Libby?

With his stifle issues I can't sell him and I won't send him to auction. He doesn't like men on him. So he will live his days out with me. I might try putting Biilie Joe on him. I had one friend that was very timid and he took great care of her. Otherwise I can ride him here or on easy trail rides.

Congratulations! How refreshing to hear someone say - I bought a horse that is not my "dream color" but I got it because it is just a good horse. She looks beautiful! can't wait to see more pics when she comes home! And it looks like you are going to have to expand the barn after all.

Like the title of the Mark Rashid book says 'a good horse is never a bad colour'. Well, it was color because he's an American but anyway...

Thanks everyone. I wish next week would get here faster. I already have a new walking horse bridle picked out for her. No I won't have to add on to the barn. I can put 6 10x10 stalls in it.4 on the back wall and 2 on the side. I'm hoping that we can sell Libby. Then I will have enough room to put in a feed room. But I do want to add on to it for a sawdust bin. The 2nd horse I ever owned was a sorrel and he was one of the best trail horses I had. Of course I think all that I have owned but 1 have been great.
This is the bridle but I will be getting it in brown to match my saddles. It has the brow band and a nose band, a breast strap and reins. I think that will go good with her color.

Well the guy sent me a message and offered me to buy her saddle, bridle, and pad. Everything she has on in the pics. For 350 so I said ok. Can't beat that deal. If I don't like the saddle I can always get my money back on it. But I still want that brown bridle with orange inlay... This will be the cheapest horse and saddle I have ever bought.. dancing couple

Congrats! She may not be your color, but she'll certainly be a beautiful addition to your herd, and a color you don't already have. She is beautiful, and I can't wait to see more pics once you get her home. Congrats on picking up all her tack for such a great price, too!
I forgot to add, I'm sorry to hear that JR isn't able to keep doing the trail rides.

Well the only thing he told me that she does bad is when tightening up the cinch she will nip at you. I told him that I can fix that issue. At least he told me so I can keep and eye on her and nip her before she nips me. My biggest worry is that she has never been in electric fencing that he knew of.. So when she gets here and I hope we get back before dark. I will hand walk her around the fence line then turn a few out with her and watch and wait. Hopefully the others will show her the ropes. I might get some survey tape and put streamers on the fence so she will see it better. I'll be so happy when this fence project is done.

I think the streamers are a good idea. Anytime we've run a new fence line, we always tie streamers to the top of it to make it more visible. It has always worked well for us. As for never having been exposed to electric fence, one good shock and she'll figure it out real quick. Pocket "learned" about electric fence (possibly for the first time) yesterday. I don't think she'll be getting too close to the fence line anymore.

i agree, a wise idea to mark electric fence wire. a few streamers here, and there will help her determine where the wire is, better safe than sorry.
