I watched this last night and they tried to paint it as though the gay rodeo exists because homosexuals aren't welcome in conventional rodeo. After watching I really have to say that some of the 'expert riders' supposedly shunned from the mainstream were honestly brutal riders!!! I bet if they could actually rope, barrel, ride a Bronc etc they'd be accepted just fine.
I could be wrong because I'm Canadian and pretty liberal. Clearly none of the producers knew anything about actual rodeo. They kept talking about how steer riding is the most difficult and dangerous event at any rodeo. Um, that's an exhibition event for youth riders at most rodeos.
Some of it looked pretty fun in terms of their events, I'll probably go watch the local one next year but the whole 'boo hoo' tone of the documentary irked me.

Shoot, I wish I'd seen it. Have you been to the one out here? I haven't been able to go yet but I hear it's a blast. Next year for sure.

We live in a smaller redneck kind of town and the gay rodeo chose to try holding it at our local rodeo grounds several years ago. They were concerned that there might be acceptance issues and were happy to find out that we were gracious and many of the same people that attend the regular rodeo were more than happy to attend this one as well. Local restaurants and other public places have also been very welcoming. It's hard to volunteer because so many people want to. It makes me proud of my town.

I totally agree NHG....I hope the riding is a little better than in this documentary!
