I'm very excited, my horse and I are going to go do a cow lesson on Monday, except it's going to be on buffalo instead. Anybody done this?

Ooh aren't those things crazy, there's a herd close to me and they always take off galloping when I ride past!

There's a place near Langdon that does work with buffaloes instead of cows. There's a reason why but I can't remember what it is.

My farrier used to say that Buffalo are smarter and harder to predict than a cow. He was a rancher. It does seem to me that Buffalo are more high strung than cows, but I do not have extensive experience with either.
Sounds like fun though!

Yep apparently they are quite a bit quicker and smarter. A lot of times with cow work the fastest horse wins but with the buffalo you really need to learn to read them and outsmart them. (This is according to the guy giving the lesson). So I think that'll be great fun for me and my hrose.

I could be wrong but I think the buffaloes last longer as training animals. The cows end up knowing what's coming and kind of shut down and won't work but the buffaloes will still react. I just remembered that a friend has her working cow horses trained by a guy that uses buffalo as well. Good for you for all the variety of things you do with her. She was a wonderful, fun life with you and you're really growing as a horsewoman.

Now DH and I are half heartedly trying for a second so I'm trying to get all the riding in I can before/in case I get pregnant again. I still ride when I'm pregnant but it's more just frittering about than really 'riding' which is why my niece started riding her in the first place.

Halfheartedly trying to get pregnant? I hope that means joy averaged out over time rather than "meh" during

Half heartedly because I feel overwhelmed enough with one, but I'm no spring chicken so I can't wait too much longer to at least start trying!

Yeah, kidlets are a challenge but if you don't want to, you shouldn't have to. Your inner wisdom should will tell you what's the right thing to do. But either way, you are good people and it'll work out just fine.

I didn't get to go do the buffalo lesson. My daughter was way too sick to go to daycare plus the roads are brutal after a big snowstorm and I wasn't that into hauling in this weather.
Next time I hope!

I just have the one and there's only been a few times that I wished I'd had two. When we moved and she had to make new friends it would have been good for her to have a 'friend' at home for a while. We have a very close relationship that I don't think we'd have if there was another child or the other child would have felt very left out. Plus kids are bloody expensive!!
