As you know I lost my mare not long time ago, she was Viktors mom. He is 4 months old, and was lost at first, older coalt Aramis was giving him a hard time and he did not have nobody to run to and protect him. It was really sad to see him walking around lonely, but I did not wanted to interfere because I knew the herd will take care of him eventually. And they did. Mara started to protect him and chase away Aramis when he would bite Viktor. Mara also has a 4 month old foal Athos, witch is Viktors brother by father, I guess mother instinct and herd instinct to protect their own kicked in. She does allow him to nurse her, but he is not really interesting in nursing as we feed him now with milk re-placer. It is very beautiful to see how horses are such kind creatures and how they also feel empathy and love for eatch other :) upload images

Awwww, I was worried about poor Viktor but I am so glad that Mara stepped up to take care of him. So sweet. Thanks for letting us know what was going on.

I love how they are both so close to her sides! Has Athos shown any jealousy towards Viktor or has he accepted the fact his mom is taking care of Viktor too?

I too was worried about Viktor , so Mara has decided to take on another foal. yes horses and animals do take on the one that deserve the help. i have seen it happen in my herd. a colt needed to be separated from his mother at 2 months old as she was sick with influenza and other problems and needed to be cared for in a quaranteen situation as to not infect other horses and the babies. my mare has her daughter the same age and silly took on tid bits and nursed him and taught him how to be a big boy and a big horse.
thank you for posting that update.

That is wonderful. Usually orphan foals don't do well. But it looks like he will do just fine.

It is adorable to see two of them following Mara, cuties. I also was worried, but I guess it was time for something good to happen to me, and it did.
