Lately I have found myself working with my mom's mare a lot more. My mom has made the decision to put her up for sale come spring. It was a really hard one for her but Genie is just not the type of horse for her. My mom asked me to work with Genie until she is sold to try and get some quirks out and to have her gain a bit more experience. Not sure if anyone remembers the trail riding help thread... She can be a hand full.
I have ridden her a few times last week and I'm amazed at how quickly she has improved. I got her to lead out a challenging trail ride filled with fallen trees and puddles. She shied away from almost everything initially but with some encouragement we did eventually lead the ride! This is HUGE for her! For the trail ride I was with my friend and she was on our other horse Oliver. Then the next time I rode her We did some ring work (with an other horse with us) and after that I took her for a small loop around the trails alone. She did great! I'm quite pleased with her actually.
Now I am curious as to what you ladies think I should work on with Genie throughout the winter to help prep her to be sold? I am planing on doing a few trailer in lessons with her throughout the fall/winter and see how she does with that.

Maybe by the time you're done she will be an appropriate horse for your mom. I don't know what her issues are so I can't offer anything. The things I don't want to see a horse do are being buddy sour or barn sour, not having a good stop. I like them to be good with their feet, being sprayed by fly sprays, go in the trailer as you mentioned, know how to back up and things like sidepass, turn on the haunch or on the forehand are a bonus for me. Tie nicely. Be led nicely while paying attention to where I am so I don't get stepped on. Knowing how to lunge even though I rarely do it. All these things show that someone has taken time with her.

It kinda depends how much she's selling her for and what discipline

Sorry it's been so long for a reply!! So far we are just doing basic ring work, I think she would be best suited for pleasure or gaming personally but I want to expose her to everything. One thing I know for sure is she is NOT being sold as a trail horse. I am working her on trails but she doesn't necessarily enjoy it. She is much better behaved in the ring. I'm going to try and share a video of our last ride to see what you ladies think Sorry my post is a little vague.
