So now I'm going to start riding Ira, I don't want to put shoes on him as he hangs around in the marsh a lot and I just know they will not last so I'm looking at hoof boots, he's kinda clumsy too, I do worry he will keep catching them with his back foot and trip himself up and land flat on his face or tear them off when I'm riding him!
Many many years ago I used the original hoof boot, is it equiboot, I forget, they weren't easy to put on, took a lot of effort to get them tight, I have weak fingers due to nearly losing them in garage door couple years back!....plus those things would get sucked off if riding in muddy conditions which it always was in Scotland!
Anyone have any input on boots they've used, I'm thinking the ones the endurance riders use have to be fairly reliable and neat to wear so less likely to get caught by back feet as they are riding over variating terrain?

Do you have posting abilities on HT? I know we have some that use boots here, but over there a lot more input.... Personally, I would shoot Smilie a PM and ask her opinion. She rides using them and has had several different brands and styles so might be able to help you. My friend had easy boots...they were NOT easy imo to put on and secure tight enough...either that or she didn't have the right adjustments and know how to use them. Not something I ever did often so no comments from me {now that is a change! }My horses were shod till this last guy and he is barefoot {TY!}..... .........enjoy!!

I'd be interested to hear what you find out too. I've often thought about boots for Mister.

I like the color choices..."nail polish" for the horses hooves....
Seriously...do they have a strap the goes on above the coronet band and below the fetlock/ankle?
The buckle looks to be strong and substantial. And the fact you can get them with studs or not, sure meets the needs for "all-weather riding"... The availability of pairs or single I really, really like. Lose or bust one you can replace it easy enough...
You better keep us informed how it goes ....they sound and look really nice!

I think I'll go for the red ones, should be easy to find if I lose one, although people say if they are fitted correctly then they will not come off!

I have friends who do endurance rides and I think most of them use the renegades. I hope they work out for you and Ira.

I have thought about boots for trail riding. My choice was the renegades. I know people that use them and love them. I used Boa's on JR and they rubbed the front of his hoof. I have also seen a lot of the mountain riders back east use the Cavellos and the easy boots. They use Velcro to hold them on and after a few rounds of mud. They came off. Some would take them and have leather straps put on them and put nylon stockings on the foot first to keep them from rubbing. The renegades are more open and cover the bottom of the hoof and I have never heard of them rubbing. A lot of endurance riders use them. Let me know how you like them. I do know that you have to keep a regular schedule for trimming with them.

Still waiting on their arrival, I get my horses done every 4-5 weeks so shouldn't be a problem, I can rasp them a bit too myself, think that helps with grip so not too worried:)

Are you ordering 4? i have had boarders use the boots , and they were easy to get on and off. but were not used for a long ride. just a saunter up and down the roadway. those look substantial and seem to have the buckles and straps in the correct place so they should stay on.

No, I'll try just with fronts at first, if he keeps tripping in them I guess I'll have to get shoes next year and fence off the marsh as he spends half his life in there:(

So total turnaround here!
I just received my 4 boots, I ended up getting 4 studded ones for Daxter, he will be a good test for therm and I plan on using him in the sleigh and need grip and after talking wih farrier and renegade makers decided the boots were the best and cheapest in the long run option.
It's way too cold to try them right now, farrier is out again once it warms up and I will get her to help me fit them then I'll post pictures and uodate what I think of them after riding him:)
