Well Tony and I took the car to Lint's work and took his truck. We need to get hay. Anyways someone had told me about a tack store ran by the Amish in Seymore. So we found directions and went there today. They had loads of stuff in there. From parts for bridles, saddles, etc. They had a lot of bridles and breast straps. I found a set I liked so may go back and get it. They had rope halters for 7.50 and ones with the lead for 12.00. So I got new rope halters to tuck in my saddle bags. I got a can of hoof dressing for 12.00 that I couldn't find anywhere else. Plus got to see some back road scenery.. Tony asked them about making him a set of leather horns bags. For 30$!!! I told the guy I could bring my set in and they could get the measurements from it. I can't believe of all the trail riders and horse people around here that there aren't any real tack stores. And all the ones that I have come across are to far away..
broke down and fired up the pellet stove. It's in the 40's and still raining.

It got down to 37 here last night, but I couldn't start a fire. I cleaned out the ash box today, so look out next cold snap. We don't have any tack stores around here either. The closest one is 100 miles away. There are a few individual selling used equipment, which can be really good and affordable most of the time. It's just that I feel uncomfortable, riding in a used saddle, that says 1983 barrel champion, when the only barrels I have ever run is,,, too my trash barrels when I see the trash man coming up the road.
The price on the rope halters is cheep. It sounds like you had a pretty trip, and a fun day shopping.

Diamond you made me chuckle....barrels!!
Ming...The tack sounds wonderful. A near private store and nice quality....don't let to many know or the prices will skyrocket and the quality nosedive sadly.
I'm now on the hunt for plastic barrels....the blue poly ones. New exercise Chance and his riders have to do.... I swear that horse has a wooden plank for a neck...bend, NEVER, then he gives so sweetly...grrrrr!

Ming...how much is hay by you? What kind of hay is available? Bale? Rounds?
We have Coastal and Tifton 44 as local grown and "common". Peanut hay {sort of like alfalfa} not so nice and rather expensive and everything else I know from living up north...forget the prices down here...ouch!

I bought some square bales to take camping and they were 5.95 at the MFA. I've seen them from 3-7$. What I got was good mixed grass hay. My rounds bales are mixed grass and I started out paying 40 a bale but since I have been getting them he dropped it to 35 unless I get more that 6 at a time and it's 30 a bale for 1k bales. Alfalfa squares are 7. I use rounds unless I go camping then I pick up a few bales for a weekends worth. Last year they were 8$ a bale and they were nice big bales of nice grass hay. I don't have the room to store squares .....yet.
most here are Grass, clover, alfalfa and brome

Cripe..... Round bales here are 1000 pounds for $70+ average cost Squares of 40-50 pounds of Coastal $8.50, Tifton 44 is $8.25. I am looking for a grower and cut out the feed dealer, but you need to purchase volume and I am hesitant to buy that much with the moisture {humidity}....I worry about mold. Hay here is NOT baled tightly like I am used to...
What I would do for some nice T&A from NYS.... Here that T&A is about $16.00 for so-so hay. Alfalfa...$22 +++. I have seen beautiful, leafy, green and smells wonderful...$60 a bale
Thank-goodness I still have some pasture!!

Gee Whiz HL4L that is expensive. I don't know how you do it. I pay $65.00 for 1800 lb. round bales, but I fully expect it to go up to $85, now that we had such a poor harvest. I get my alfalfa for $10.25 for a 45 lb. bale, but it is chopped and bagged so there is no waste. Each round bale lasts me two weeks, the each bale of alfalfa lasts me 3 days.

Diamond...the only way "I" do it is because my husband works his butt off and brings home a good salary..
My salary, please....far from great, not even good by my standards of what I use to make and what I make now...let us not go there!! Otherwise, horses would not be happening, period!
