My daughter wants to sell one of her English saddles. She got it from friend a long time ago and it's supposed to be a good one but we can't find any kind of indication of who made it. Is there some kind of secret place that they put them? Thanks!

Under the short leather skirt just in front of the stirrup bar is one spot. A roundish metal disc usually has the maker on it.
If the saddle has a leather piece on the billets...called a billet protector it is many times on that. If you can't see anything, a piece of paper and lightly with the side of a pencil rub and see if any writing show.

I took another look. There's nothing anywhere. It's supposed to be a pretty good one but, if so, shouldn't it have a brand name?

This is the saddle. Is it a jumping saddle? I think it's an all purpose.

It looks like it has been very well kept. I can't help with brand but would suggest possibly sending a PM to slim on HT. He's helped me before with saddle questions.

Look in the gullet for a stamp or makers mark. Peek under where the panels meet the gullet, sometimes it is hidden there too.
I like the saddle..."smells nice, looks nice..is nice." I like the slot for the leathers keeper, the nice tight small stitching, very small piping and nicely finished edges. It is used, but very well taken care of you can just tell.
Don't by any means give this one away cheaply...it is worth some $$. Yes, my opinion!!

She's trying to get $200 for it but will take $150. I think that's too cheap but without a maker...

nhg...do you have a local tack shop that does consignments? She would get a good evaluation of worth and maybe put it there on consignment...
I know by me I have seen saddles no where as nice a quality as that one, no makers mark or tag and it is for $500.00+ as asking price. People are not shy and remember to buy even a piece of junk new saddle is $200 today. That is NOT junk, and hardly used.
Me, I think it is worth $350+. I see "tagged" saddles beat up getting $400 so take a few off for no makers mark, but give credit where credit is due for a nicely made good leather saddle with minimal wear. She should take no less than $200 for it, and buyer pays shipping if she does Cragislist or any other websites. Remember to add in the commission costs so she not take a real soaking....
