So, write about your favourite saddle, type, shape, western/english, color, purpose...
I use english all purpose saddle, I don't do sports so I don't need jumping or dressage saddle. I like more brown saddles, but I have black leather one. I ride in english saddle because I fell more comfortable and safer. And I think that english saddle looks better on a Lipizzan then the wester one :)

I rode English when I took riding lessons as a kid, but ever since I got my first horse I've been riding Western and love it. My saddles are all just all purpose western saddles. I did just buy a new saddle that I'm dying to try out. It's a very lightweight synthetic saddle that I bought to use on Zena. I hope I like riding in it as much as I like how easy it is to get up on her back!

I have had numerous saddles in my life. In English I have had A/P, jumping, close contact...all though were leather. In western I have had a all purpose, reining, roping and ??? don't know...again all leather. Most of them were borrowed...not owned by me.
Right now...I have my favorite English close contact is a plain flap (out of favor now, not that I ever cared!), slightly deep seat Prix de Saute made by Crump in England more than {cough, cough} near 30 years ago. Bought before my son was born or even a thought in my brain...in GREAT shape and so comfortable for me!!
For western...my son and husband have...both leather tooled I guess all purpose seats. My sons saddle is tooled and show ring silvered where as my husbands is just tooled. No name saddles that are standing up well and look even better!
For me... I'm seriously considering a western saddle and have been looking for a long time for used...but am picky, to picky I guess. I like the look of a Circle Y Park & Trail Saddle, am comfortable in it too. I also have seen a TexTan in Chicks called High Prairie & Pleasure { www.chicksaddlery.com/page/CDS/PROD/1003/TX4024 } that has caught my eye along with a few others. I don't like bling silver, but do like some tooling, not a lot. I am hearing though that TexTan isn't such a great made saddle...IDK... I don't care about "names" but do care about the quality of manufacturing being better than just good...
I can't afford Billy Cook and won't buy someone else's abused saddle to buy "the name"!! My understanding is that the new BK saddles are not the same quality as the older ones either...again, IDK. If I should fall upon the right saddle and the perfect price it will be in my hands very quickly, but being realistic... *~* not happening anytime soon.
So...guess that sounds snobby, although it isn't meant in that manner. When I buy anything, I buy quality because it is going to be with me forever... not replaced often if ever. And... I don't like synthetic...tried a few different manufacturers and just don't like them for me. And only "treed" saddles as I am not a skinny, minny and don't want that weight concentration when I ride on the horses spine....that isn't fair to the animal in my mind..
So, that is what is in my home and barn....

We ride western only..I ride in an Eli Miller. Hubby has a tucker high plains. I had a circle Y park and trial, but sold it because it didn't fit the horses I had at the time..I do regret that now. My SIL ride in a gaited Simco, Jess ride is an Abetta for now.

I learned and rode english for years and always had good saddles, barnsby event was my favourite till a sales rep gave me a synthetic thorowgood close contact, it was the first model made, my horse loved it and I loved it too and it was free!
Now though my favourite is the Timberline officers flex, its so comfortable, you wouldnt believe it, I actually sold it and regretted it, luckily the person who bought it called me when she was selling it and I bought it back,!

Thats a picture of it, the horn is metal which I dont like as its sharp edged and hooks on your clothes so i wrapped it with vetwrap, I just bought some of that stuff ropers use to wrap the horn so Ill replace it with that, this saddle really caresses your butt and thigh and I love it, love it, love it, did I say I love it?!

My first saddle was a used black Thoroughgood synthetic all purpose saddle. Super comfy! I still have it 25 years later and it is still in near perfect condition, but sadly doesn't fit Lucy. Second saddle was a brown leather Lovitt & Ricketts jumping saddle. OMG I LOVE this saddle. Even though it's a jumping saddle, I swear I could ride the trails in it all day - but it doesn't fit Lucy either It also got damaged when we moved her as the movers didn't wrap it well enough, so it's got scratches in the leather. The insurance wanted me to take it to any old leather repair place and offered $200. I fought them tooth and nail to be able to pay to have it sent back to England to Lovitt & Ricketts to have repaired. They would have had to replace the entire seat, and since the marks were on top I was worried the tree would be damaged. So I insisted it be sent back since if most of the leather was replace by just anyone, it really be a Lovitt & Ricketts anymore. We FINALLY got them to agree to the price - about $1300, but then Maddy colicked about 2 weeks later and we hadn't sent it back to England yet, so it never did get fixed. And of course the money went to pay the vet for Maddy, so now I don't have the money to get it fixed Current saddle is an unknown brand Western saddle. After the saddle fitter came out with about 7 or 8 English saddles to try on Lucy and none coming close to fitting, I finally caved and contacted her previous owners and asked if they would still sell the saddle they used with her. They had offered it when we bought her, but I had hoped I'd be able to find an English saddle. So I bought the western one off them and have been using it since. They said they had a saddle fitter out and tried a bunch of saddles and none fit, so they eventually had to haul Lucy to the tack shop and they spent half a day trying on saddles before they found this one. So, who knows how long it will take me to find an English saddle that will fit. I'm thinking of trying one of the adjustable Wintec dressage saddles, but now that I'm not working, that's been put on hold. I can't wait to go back to English saddles - they are sooo light. The first time I lifted this western saddle I was sure I'd never be able to get it on her!! Sooo heavy!

Is there a way to stop the pictures? At first it was fun but now it kind of bogs down the posts for me. And some of them I really have to figure out what they mean.
As for the saddle question, I ride western and use a Billy Cook barrel saddle as an everyday saddle. I had another saddle I really liked but my horses didn't like it although it seemed to fit him fine. He loves the Billy Cook.

Yes nhg....to stop the emoticons... click the face, a drop down of all the choices appears... scroll to the very bottom of that page and click "disable smiles". They will disable all emoticons for this post...you need to do this anytime you wish they not appear unless possibly a choice in your individual setting area...not sure about that part..

I am not going to say the word and yes just hit the smilie and at the bottom choose to disable. that needs to be done at each posting
my first one was used at the barn i trained in. then my uncle gave me a western for a thoroughbred that only knew english. soooo i bought a crosby prix de nations. that was a small fortune in the mid 70's. after that i bought another one. after getting the farm we have now with the amount of lessons i was doing and horses that l were being sold. i opened a tack shop on wheels, going from horse show to horse show and selling items to people at the shows. going to auctions and purchasing many western and english and also trading down or up.
i have circly y and billy cook and text tan sitting the tack rooms doing nothing plus a handfull of no name brand english and western. my ultimate favorite is crosby. and stubben.
