I haven't bought a new pad in years. The one I have is an Impact Gel or something like that, I can't remember. I just remember that I got it on sale and regularly it would be something like $300. It's a heavy bugger and does not go with my new saddle at all. Also, the new saddle fits him so well he doesn't need such a think one. Any suggestions for a good quality, well fitting brand of pad? I dislike felt pads and I don't need or want one with a cut out for the wither. I like them to be square edged and contoured. Patterns or solid doesn't matter but my colour for showing next year is going to be indigo blue because it's the colour of ribbon for colon cancer. The saddle is very dark. The new popular colour here is this dark brown leather, I think it's called chocolate. It's not russet because it's not dark red but it is very similar.

Wish I could help but I prefer felt pads and that is pretty much all I have. I bought a Cavallo pad last year on Black Friday for half price but I never got to use it. It looks really nice though but probably too thick for what you need. www.cavallo-inc.com/?products=western-saddle-pads

Thanks for the links HL4L, I like the last one. What's CSI, LD? Heather and I went to a tack store not far from us yesterday and they have probably hundreds of pads and I didn't see one I liked. They had WON pads which are supposed to be good and I used to have one but I didn't like it and practically gave it away. They're over $300 now brand new. They're wool felt, anyway. Not what I want. Honestly, this saddle fits so well I could use a cheap POS with it.

Then do that nhg....
Only use what you need.
I honestly have this, www.chicksaddlery.com/page/CDS/PROD/1030/33P300 , from this place for under my wool blanket. It is a open weave so it breathes, a sort of neoprene material so I can get a sweat pattern to show fit and it is large enough to be "custom cut" to fit any size blanket or pad you may use. It protects my wool blanket and my saddle and it is just enough with my blanket to make my "fit" a blue ribbon Best, it was NOT expensive.
I guess I'm just "cheap"...
Happy new blanket shopping.

A baby pad is probably all you need then NHG. If the saddle is a great fit, putting a bunch of padding underneath is going to interfere with that (but you know that all ready). Find a nice, thin liner pad and use that.

LD, those are $350! That's pricey to me. Yeah, MM, I'll just keep my eye out when I'm out and about. I'll know the one I like when I see it.
