I talked about Gaetana how she was buddy sore and barn sour, she would run as soon as we tured back to home. She would be nervous, jump at any noise and just go go go. Well after some time i started to ride her more often, I lost a dog who I had for 10 years few days ago and I was devestaded, did not wanted to do much but now I am ok and ready to do my stuff again. She got much much better, full cheek bit that mingiz send me with coper really makes her relax to the point I dont have to use it any more at all. Very soft and easy going. She still rush a bit home , but that is nothing to compere what she did before. I would make some progress, stop riding and it would get back to old her. Now I will try to work her way more often. I am proud of her. Going home, nice relaxed trott, and then on command walk without having to pull on the bit, just a word and she listen. i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag124/nikolinamatkovic1993/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG5017_zpsygl36woe.jpgi1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag124/nikolinamatkovic1993/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG5026_zpsipxalfjs.jpgi1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag124/nikolinamatkovic1993/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG5028_zpskducrk7n.jpg

Sounds like such progress and ongoing success.......
Glad you have figured a way to reach her, control her mind and her attitude to make her such a super horse to ride... blue ribbon .... earned and well deserved!!

Your mare loves you deeply and knows you want what is best for her. and she also knows how sad you are for having your dog pass away. all the training you do with her is paying off. She is beautiful and you are doing wonders with her.

Thank you , it really means a lot to me. Few times I lost my faith I will do any progress with her, but I am starting to belive again. I should definetly give her more credit and see that maybe she is a good trail horse, and stop riding only my studs when going on trails. I wish I can have my own place where I could do what ever I want. Here she is stuck with my father being the boss.

She is just beautiful. So glad the bit helped and you were able to relax. Sorry to hear about your dog - it is so hard to lose a member of the family.

Thank you. I had her(the dog) for 10 years but I actually did not know how old she was. I took her from the street when she was adult already. I sure miss her alot!! Gaetana is a good mare, she will always try for me.

That's wonderful about Gaetana. You're hard work is paying off.
I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. I know you miss her but you will see her again one day. Maybe George is teaching her to fly!

Thank you, I ride her verey day(when weather lets me). I am extra proud of her today, beacause it was very windy and she normally reacts worse on the bad weather, but she was calm.
I wanted to ask for everyones opinion on something. She likes to see everything, likes to turn her head left and right and observe. I read somewhere that it is a good thing to let a horse do that, so she can be more relaxed , that she can see for it self where the noise is coming from etc. Some people over the years also told me it is not a good idea to do that, that horse should be concentraded on a rider and pay attention. Ok, I mean, i agree on some point, but how it will benefit a horse to always be concentraded, I think it is good to let a horse relax, to observe and enjoy. I mean I only ride for pleasure, not to compete.

Mister would love to look around all over the place when I trail rode him. I didn't mind but would occasionally make sure he would listen to me if I asked (just a simple half-halt or slight shortening of the reins to make sure that ear would come back to me).
If you feel comfortable letting her look around and she is not ignoring you or your aids, I would let her do it.

Thank you, she does listen and I notice she gets more relaxed when I let her look around. When I was correcting her all the time she got more nervous.

It makes sense to me. It's just like we don't like when someone is constantly nagging at us.

I like letting the horse look around to see where they are going and where the noises are coming from. after all they have hearts and brains and if anything is in their ear shot or eye sight they will let you know. it is a matter of know your horse and allow your horse to protect you.

I agree with all that has been said too. Like HL said, and I'll paraphrase, horses are people too. When we trust them enough and have confidence in our skills to respond appropriately we don't have to micromanage. Then when something comes up where we are better off relying on our horse's abilities they come through for us. I get that now but it takes a lot to really live that. It's kinda scary to trust an animal that can be so emotional
