I want to buy a Circle Y "Park & Trail saddle".. smileys-home-474322
Does anyone have one and if you do does it have semi-bars or full bars? Can you tell my what the measurement is across and HOW DO I MEASURE IT?
I think I only need a semi-bar saddle but with reading am finding there is no standard and my saddles and where I measure them may not be correct.
Also, does anyone know who makes their tree? If I can't find what I want in this brand, if I know who else uses that tree and can look in another brand or two or three.... more possibilities.
My issue is to wide a twist...any suggestions for those that have "felt" that issue... ...

Hi! My hubby and I own 3 Circle Y Park and Trail Saddles. 1 15 Inch 1 16 inch and 1 17 inch FQHB. I love these saddles. You are supposed to measure from the conchos across to get the width . I use the Circle Y serial #'s to determine the tree size. I am a larger rider and needed the FQHB for my large gelding - the seat width took some getting used to - but the saddle is very comfortable. I always thought or read they made their own trees- but that could depend on the year the saddle was made as Tucker purchased Circle Y a few years ago.

I have a P&T saddle - it's fairly comfortable (well once I put the fleece seat saver on). I will measure the gullet for you when I get home tonight, I'm pretty sure mine is a SQHB. I was always told the correct way to measure was between conchos or ties on the front. (though look at the info about half way down this page: saddlemakers.org/id193.htm ) But you are right, there really is no standard which is why it is best to just try the potential saddle on the horse. As for the tree, I really don't know. i will say that I think the one I have has a wider twist. I know you don't go to "the other place" much anymore but slim may be able to help you some (though he isn't on there very much anymore either).

Good info here. www.horsesaddleshop.com/how-to-measure-your-saddle.html#.VeEHdF1FDVI
I had an older CY PT loved it!! Mine was black, wide tree.17in seat. Sold it for what I paid for it and I put a lot of miles in that saddle.
I'm going to sell my Big Horn. I have used it on 2 horses and I can get the stirrups far enough forward to have a good seat going down steep hills. It wants to throw me forward. So it isn't made like they were a few years back. So it's still new and it is a comfy saddle but it isn't a good feel. So I'll be looking at the CY flex tree. A friend has one and rides gaited and loves it. I'll ride my trusted Eli Miller.
