Squee!!! Am so excited!!!
My old truck gave out in January ... transmission cooked while I was towing Reggie! That was a barrel of laughs ...after travelling more than 1200 miles in a week, it broke down just 12 miles from home. Those last 12 miles took a total of four hours. But we did make it home safely (even the breakdown location was AWESOME, got myself into an empty parking lot).
That whole experience made me think that sinking another $1200 into fixing the roof on an 18 year old fiberblass reinforced wood trailer wasn't the smartest thing to do. I mention the FRP because once water gets in there, it all starts going downhill. I did not know how much water had gotten in to the trailer. So I sold it in February. That was the weirdest sale ever ... I was doing it "as is" without the repairs, and kind of kept bad-mouthing the thing to the buyer. But she was in love with it and brought cash. Have checked in with her later and she's still very happy with it after fixing the roof.
So between February and now, I've been trailer shopping. Let me tell you, full draft horse trailer are REALLY RARE. OK, wait, maybe the full draft horse trailers of the type i wanted are really rare. I guess many folks with drafties are hauling 4 animals for hitch, and\or carriage. So if I had an unlimited budget and an unlimited amount of space for a 24-30 foot trailer, I probably could've bought something by now. But a simple 2H trailer that's got axles bigger than 3500lbs, and an interior height of 7'6" or taller? RARE indeed.
I've been watching www.horsetrailerworld.com most of this time, and doing a search for the word "draft" every single freakin' day. Search for "warmblood" every few days. Lots of people say "big enough for a draft" without considering the weight. Don't care if the stall is big enough unless the axles and floor are OK to carry double a light horse.
Anyhoo, so on Sunday the 13th, I found a trailer exactl how I said - horsetrailerworld, keywords "draft." Lo and behold, it was offered at a dealer whom I know by word of mouth from where I used to live. I have friends who have bought from him, and he has his trailers maintenanced at the shop I used to use. I had looked at one of his trailers in February so we had at least met face to face.
End result - I bought the freakin' trailer without seeing it in person! Yikes! It's a 370 mile trip, and I have been searching for so long. So I went by pictures, a couple questions, a call to the service shop to make sure it's good for my boys, and bing, bang, boom, done! I go pick it up next weekend! Yay!
2007 Hawk 2H Bumper Pull. It's got the walkthru where the horse can exit the front of the trailer by side ramp. The interior is all white, which I like. The height is 7'8", which is 2" taller than my old trailer. And get this because of the weird set up with teh side ramp, one stall is narrower and longer, while the other is wider and shorter. To me, that sounds like it was custom made for my boys! (Jacques is the 16.3 super wide chest beefcake, and Reggie is the 17.2 tall and lanky type.) :-)
