Does anyone have any experience with using a front riser pad to help with saddle fit? My saddle is a bit to wide for Benny and combined with his current lack on topline I was wondering if (a) Such a thing even exists - I have only ever seen the rear risers (b) If anyone has ever used one - personal experiences appreciated! (c) Other recommendations
I can't afford a new saddle at the moment, and even though I do have mine listed for sale, it is just going to have to do until I can buy a new one. The fit isn't atrocious, but it isn't ideal either. I know eventually he will get sore if things are left as they are, and I would rather like to avoid that.
Thanks all!

I have two. They're for a western saddle, though. You ride english, right?

Yes, I ride English. I am glad that there is such a thing, at least for western saddles. I found a few shimable pads, but I'm not sure that is what I need. (At all really, front riser was just an idea that popped into my head)

Yes, they make a wedge pad for what you look for.
More on the line of a pommel pad is what you search for or something like these below......
www.doversaddlery.com/roma-wither-relief-lift-front/p/X1-19456/, or www.doversaddlery.com/wither-back-pad/p/X1-1905/, or www.doversaddlery.com/centaur-poly-formed-saddle-pad/p/X1-19916/...
I like Dover Saddlery as they have a extensive saddle pad selection.... I stayed in the reasonable priced ones but they have the expensive ones too, not that I know if they would work any better than the affordable ones I gave you links for.
I would stay though with something like a half pad. It doesn't shift as easily out of place with the horses movement and it {to me} keeps a better balanced ride happening under that saddle. Remember though the more you put between you and the horses spine the less "feel" you have to each other.
Good luck and happy shopping.

just to add, my sheepskin half pad has neoprene inserts for the front. I don't need it for sheldon so I just take them out but it could be an other option for your boy as well. Mine was purchased at Greenhawk originally, but they can be a bit pricey bran new (i got mind second hand).
